delino dear, 6-9 / 205lb, progressive christian academy in maryland - but his hometown is chicago (Mt. Carmel).

He averaged 8 ppg and 5 rb in his last season at mt carmel

espn says vcu and drexel are after him
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=103048&season=2010

Scout.com lists Providence and Marquette as other interested schools.

this is from Chicagohoops.com a couple of years ago:
6-9 Delino Dear of Chicago Mount Carmel is a Class of 2009 prospect to watch. Dear is tall, long and runs the floor like a deer. His skills are still developing, but with some added weight and muscle he is a prospect who holds some very nice upside potential. Dear competes on the travel team circuit with Larry Butler's Illinois Warriors.

I can't find much else on him. A couple of those articles are "insider".. so maybe someone else can come up with a little more on him. I can't find much on Progressive Christian Academy either.. other than it appears the team will have a losing season.

The connection with BU is probably an old one, I think.

My source says the Braves are currently in the mix and actively recruiting Dear. He might be wrong.. but not usually.

I hope we leave no stone unturned! One thing about JL love him or hate him he is not a slacker and will work his tail off! I also hope that the new AD has a few good ties to talent.

the wording from the ESPN site comes stright from a premium recruiting service, which had previously reported that BU had looked at and recruited Dear some time in the past few months...but likely we have moved on..
But - as can be seen from that description and others, he is raw, and he is skinny... 6-9 and 205 lbs (same weight as Chris Roberts)...he's roughly right now where AT was 2 years ago...

Since our coaches don't reveal much information publically about recruiting, we may never know. But I think they have looked at a number of 5 prospects, and passed on most because we don't need another project.

Then tell them to find the beefy, polished 5 players and get them signed! I guess the coaches are on a quest this spring.....

I believe he says now that his 09-10 season is over he has heard from the following teams. That list includes Bradley.

Not doubting your info. He is one of many bigs the staff has evaluated in the recent past. Don't know that he was ever offered.

The point I am making, is the information about BU being interested and in contact with this player is not old from months ago or when he was in Chicago.

Dear's season just ended and he said he has heard from a number of schools since the season ended, including BU. He may not be a high priority target for the Braves.. but at the very least BU showed interest in the last week or two.

I like when we're in the running with schools like Butler... we may not win too many of those, but it gives me (probably a false) sense of confidence in the kid. When the big names he's hearing from include Maryland Eastern Shore... I get worried.

Now lets hope the "big" schools just missed on evaluating a great kid... but I feel better (as a fan) when I see others wanting him, too ;)

Will Franklin was our 2nd or 3rd choice when we got him, and I am pretty sure Theron Wilson was our 2nd choice as well. We've had some good luck finding some gems in the spring, hopefully we'll have similar luck this year.

This must be the player that JL was discussing at a game day luncheon. He talked about being at a Christian School scouting a player, and a big fight broke out during the game. If so, we have been on him for awhile.

That might have been a different player. :D

I am aware of another big man at a Christian academy in a different state that the coaches have been following a bit longer and are still involved with.

I hope it's this guy, he sounds like what we need! Moses Abraham

There is also this guy, but nothing is said of him and his weight isn't listed, but he is 7'1.

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=55149&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb %2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d551 49%26season%3d2010

Other than that all the guys listed on ESPN who are unsigned from christian academies are listed as kids who would be projects and are too thin. I assume that's not what we are looking for. Is this person listed on ESPN Centers?

I had run across the name Ellie Lalhabr as well. I couldn't find out much about him either.. other than he I think he went to the same HS as EM. I did not find anything linking him to BU or anyplace else for that matter.

No, I don't think either of those guys are being recruited by BU. Moses Abraham is possibly the best big man not committed, and is considering Georgetown, Maryland, Indiana, and Texas. I wish BU was in that mix, but they aren't.

I read that Isaiah Cannans resume on the site you linked to. His high school accomplishments were huge so i figured he would look bigger. I looked up how we was doing.

Look at the top 5 scorers for Murray State and their averages.

Ivan Aska F 10.6 4.9 0.7
B.J. Jenkins G 10.5 2.5 3.2
Danero Thomas F 10.4 4.2 2.5
Tony Easley C 10.4 5.8 1.0
Isaiah Canaan G 10.3 2.3 1.6

I find that cool.

Is this guy still available?

If VCU and Drexel are in on him, I would throw our name in as they both scout and get quality big man talent...

Granted not sure if they develop theirs better than we do, but its worth a shot if he's still out there...

That and I like the name...

YES DEAR! :D

Delino Dear is ok. As already stated he is not the answer at the 5 spot.

His former Mt. Carmel teammate Jon Gac is attending Loyola this upcoming season. Gac is a little shorter (6'8'') but a little more physically stout and has good range on his shot.

Maybe the interest in Dear is due to the fact Dear is more of a 5 and Gac a 4 (or even 3) but I would have been more interested in Gac than Dear. The fact that Gac is probably better than Dear and is heading to Loyola should tell us something about Dear.

Changed his mind last minute and signed with Toledo

http://ilprepbullseye.com/page32.html

Talk about going down to the wire! As it turns out, University Of Toledo head coach Tod Kowalczyk has added to his 2010 recruiting class by signing a big man who we believe could turn out to be a steal. That is because Toledo has landed 6'9 forward Delino Dear from Progressive Christian Academy in Maryland.

It had previously been reported that Dear had verbally committed to Drexel. However, Dear never signed a letter of intent with the Dragons and instead chose to sign with Toledo today. He chose the Rockets over Drexel and East Carolina.
