L.A. Pomlee is a 6'8" forward from Davenport (Iowa) Central High School. He was one of the dozen recruits at the Bradley game against DePaul. He is just starting his junior season, and Bradley has not yet offered a scholarship. According to a new article on Rivals, he has not gotten any offers yet, but has been getting interest from a number of major schools. In the latest article he says he is now 6'8" and 230 pounds.
Unfortunately for the kid, he will be sidelined for his entire junior season with a blood clot in his leg. He will be on blood thinners and not be allowed to play this season. He may still be able to play AAU ball next summer, and for his senior season, if medically cleared. It sounds like this is a similar situation to Bradley player in the early 80's, Pierre Cooper.
L.A. Pomlee profile. He is rated as a 3-star prospect--

He is a 4-star prospect on Scout--

LA Pomlee has been diagnosed with a very severe blood clotting problem in his leg that will cost him the entire year.
This is similar to the problem that BU recruit Pierre Cooper (in the early 1980's) had that ultimately cost him his entire basketball career. He was getting Big East and Big Ten offers.

"Davenport Central (Iowa) junior L.A. Pomlee ... was diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg that will likely keep him on the sidelines for his entire junior season.
Pomlee will be on Coumadin (blood thinner) for six months..."

Rivals indicates that LA Pomlee started playing this weekend for his AAU team after sitting out the HS season with a blood clot. The reports are that he looked awfully good for someone who had been out that long. On the recruiting front he indicated Wisconsin and Bradley had stayed on him during his year off. He is listed in Rivals as a 3-star 6 foot 8 220 lb power forward. We'll have to see how many big name programs come after him now that he is playing again.

Van Coleman still lists us among the contenders for LA along with Ill, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Well at least we are in the fight with the big guys again. It would be nice to land one of these guys. He is a top 150 player and they expect him to wait until the spring to sign.
I saw him last year and if I remember correctly he is a lefty. It would be different to go with two left handers (along with Thompson who is a lefty as well isn't he ?).

Iowa State is listed high on his list of potential suitors. I hope Wendsday's game makes a positive impression for us.

Yes, I was hoping we would get a visit for the iowa state game. I didn't see him though.

Jim Les said on his radio show that this game occurred during a "dead period" when college coaches cannot have contact with recruits. So there was no way we could have had Pomlee or any other recruit there until after the dead period which lasted from November 12-15.
See the right upper corner of this release--

note-- the NCAA has ruled that this "dead period" applies to all coaches except Jerry Wainwright of DePaul ;)

I would have liked to have got this kid, but since he won't sign till the late signing date it's unlikely we will still be in on him. There just seem to be too many big schools interested in him. I wish we could have made a move in the early signing period.

L.A. Pomlee has eliminated Bradley and Illinois.
A new article from Rivals.com quotes him as saying he has trimmed his list to 3 schools, Wisconsin, Iowa State, and West Virginia. He says his favorite is Wisconsin.

The recruitment of Davenport power forward L.A. Pomlee (http://www.chicagosports.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=40598) was once thought to be quiet is anything but, as the 6'8" athlete has got some high majors drooling over this physical specimen, but L.A. has narrowed it down to three. "Iowa State, West Virginia, and Wisconsin", stated Pomlee. But does he have a favorite...
"Yes", explained L.A. "Right now I'm leaning towards Wisconsin.

But maybe this story was written by the guy who falsely claimed Matt Roth had eliminated Bradley when he had not yet.

The Wisconsin Rivals site also has a new premium article on L.A. Pomlee.
http://wisconsin.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=777459
In it he tells the Wiscon site that he has narrowed his choices to Wisconsin, Iowa State, and West Virginia. Those are the only schools he mentions. And he says the one that stands out is Wisconsin.
Wisconsin has already signed a couple quality big men for 2008,Ian Markolf (http://wisconsin.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=42386), and Jared Berggren (http://wisconsin.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=55568).

Sounds like he was waiting around for Wisconsin to show him the love, and it just never happened.

L.A. Pomlee was kicked off the Iowa State team this today. The reason given was multiple violations of team rules.
He was a BU recruit at one time, but I wouldn't expect to see him at Bradley.

Depending on what the violation was I would still love to have him. If it was missing class, maybe he could learn from it. If it was drugs, then I don't think so since it was several times. If it was only once then I would have been willing to give a second chance. Anyway as a player I picture similar to the way Will Egolf is playing now inside. Mobile, can rebound. I realize Will is a better outside shooter, but he pretty much plays inside. I know now with our limited scholarships it would be hard(Since Dodie will be back another year). If we aren't getting JW then I would definately want him. However if we do get JW and we only have one scholarship to give I have completely changed my mind and Point Guard would be my top priority this year. Before the season I would have said Big guard or Big Man.

I've watched him play the last couple of years, both in summer league and in limited minutes with Iowa State. Bradley can do better. He's extremely athletic, has good size, but really is much more of an athlete than he is a basketball player.

He would have to sit out next year so it would not be a good fit plus he does not conform to rules which is a deal breaker.

Agreed- I don't see this happening. Bradley needs to fill the scholarships for next year with players who can contribute right away.
I also do not see JL recruiting anyone who may have an attitude problem unless they are a phenom.
