The report from the university claims his "leave of absence for the remainder of the season" is unrelated to the DUI.
His DUI is not just an innocent "lack of judgement" as has been claimed with other coach-DUI incidents, but Sutton was out of control of his SUV, veered into oncoming traffic, then collided with another vehicle at speeds (60mph) in excess of the limit. Clearly he could have killed someone, and I am very thankful that didn't happen and wish all parties well.

This is not in any way a discussion about whether he is a good recruiter or a good coach. This is another example of behavior that if I did it, I'd expect to be in jail with little chance of ever getting my license again.
But the Sutton supporters will surely make Eddie into the unfortunate victim, just wait and see.

Nevertheless, who is going to be the first to start the "Sutton for BU coach thread"?

He was taking meds for pain, and was found with a "bottle of
hydrocodone ...in his SUV".
I am sad to hear he requires such strong pain meds for his
condition, but clearly he should not be driving under the influence
of such a strong narcotic.
I did a quick check on hydrocodone and the very first line in the
product info says:
'Hydrocodone can impair thinking and the physical abilities
required for driving or operating machinery"
Whose responsibility is it to keep him off the road?
I think the answer is that it is Eddie Sutton's responsibility.

He was planning to retire soon and let his son take over. This might be the time to retire? I hope he recovers OK.

Here's some news on Eddie Sutton.

The Oklahoma folks have released the news of Eddie Suttons blood alcohol level.
Remember, he left the OSU arena about 5PM, got in his car and drove toward the airport to go to Texas for their Saturday game at Texas A&M. He was seen swerving across four lanes of traffic, into oncoming traffic, and crashing into another car then a tree.
At the site, Sutton appeared intoxicated, and was taken into custody, then sent to a hospital to be observed overnite for his head injury. Initially he refused to take a test for sobriety-which automatically causes a loss of license.

The blood test taken at the hospital, several hours after the crash showed a level of .22, nearly 3 times the legal limit of .08.

That means he must have been drinking a bunch that afternoon. And it means the level migh have been higher had the test been taken at the accident scene several hours before, but Eddie refused to allow it.
It is a sheer miracle this guy didn't kill someone.

Oklahoma State played their best game of the season and beat Texas (#6 ranked) 81-60.

They had a season low 9,053 fans in attendance and the fans stormed the court after the game.
Bradley had 9,023 in attendance, so I am pretty impressed on the fan support on such a cold day.

Just a little update
http://www.ocolly.com/read_story.php?a_id=30123

Driving in mid-day while drunk, hit another vehicle, and then a tree, finally being arraigned three months later, and what do you want to bet his penalties are fairly light.

Here's a quote:
"Coach has never backed away from his responsibilities...."
......He.....has always stressed the importance of accountability to his team and that he continues to lead by example."

Hmmm.....tell me how driving while drunk supports these last two statements??
Sounds a little like some spin to me, in advance of a plea bargain that'll get old Eddie off pretty easy.

Great, Eddie Sutton teaching young people about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Kinda like John Gotti teaching kid the dangers of getting involved with the mob.
Anyway, doesn't anyone actually figure out he's only doing it because it's a requirement of his
mandatory public service so he'd only get probation for his drunken driving accident?

I wonder if they showed this video as part of Eddie Sutton's anti-drinking speech.

That is a GAS __I am sure the OU fans would pay big bucks to get a copy of that tape.
