Default BU recruit- class of 2010- Kyle Kelm

Kyle Kelm is a 6'9" sophomore (class of 2010) from Randolph, Wisconsin.
Bradley has offered a scholarship. He is described by one recruiting site as "one of the fastest rising class of 2010 prospects in Wisconsin". He now has offers from Northern Iowa, Bradley, Iowa State, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee, along with strong interest from Wisconsin.

Kyle is just one of multiple talented kids from the classes of 2010 and 2011 that Bradley is aggressively recruiting and have offered scholarships to. We will have more reports on him and others later.

Scout has a new article today on BU recruit Kyle Kelm. He likes Iowa State after an unofficial visit there last fall on a football weekend, but he still lists Bradley.

It is a subscription article--
Kelm Wide Open at the Moment
http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=2&c=761020

Here are a couple clips--
"I don't have any clear leaders but if I had a top five, Iowa State would definitely be in it, "said Kelm. "I took a visit there last fall to a football game and really liked it."
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward is considered to be one of the better shooting big men in the Midwest and the Cyclones have clearly taken notice.
He currently lists scholarship offers from UNI, Bradley, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Iowa State, and most recently Marquette. "Location won't be an issue for me at all but at the moment, I'm not really close to making a decision."

With the verbal of Milos Knezevic, do you think BU will still be after Kelm, who at 6-9/210 is a little less bulky than Milos (6-8/220).
I wouldn't be surprised if JL would like them both, since Kelm is described as more of an outside shooter.

Why wouldnt we go after this guy or a similar player from the 2010 class?
Will Egolf will be a Senior in the 2010-2011 season. We have Milos here begining in the 2009-2010 season. Landing a player like Kelm in the 2010 class would give the program some continuity.imo

The Iowa State Scout site has a new article about Kyle Kelm--
http://iowastate.scout.com/2/769550.html

As most of their content does, it requires a subscription to read. But here is a clip--
Kelm is a player that Iowa State has targeted for their 2010 recruiting class and he clearly noticed who was in the audience down in Kentucky. "Coach McDermott was there for all my games during the tournament."
Kyle is considered an outstanding outside shooter for a big man but is trying to show he can play in the post as well. "I like playing both during a game," said Kelm. "I like to start off inside and get my confidence up for my outside shot."
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Kelm has offers from UNI, Bradley, Iowa State, Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, and most recently from Iowa.

So with the final two rides of 2010...wouldn't we need a couple guards...maybe one being a game-ready juco kid like Dodie & Roberts are for 2008?

This being the case...I cannot imagine unless more scholarships open up, that any of those three rides that are available between now and 2010 would go to yet another big man who is thin and would be a year or so away from helping.

So I think this rules out Kyle Kelm as a primary target........
I wouldn't rule anything out. If Kelm is a kid that the coaches think can make a difference, they will continue to pursue him. A lot of things can change, kids can leave unexpectedly, and the commits for 2009 & 2010 can change their minds. No doubt they will focus mainly on guards with the remaining 2009 scholarship, and for 2010, to replace Warren, Dunson, Roberts, but I expect there could be room for one more big guy.

The Oregon State Rivals site has an article today about Kyle Kelm. New Oregon State coach Craig Robinson really likes him and see him as a player who can play in his "Priceton style" offense that he plans to use at Oregon State.

Premium article--
http://oregonstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=844732

Profile--
http://oregonstate.rivals.com/viewpr...2&pr_key=75488

Here are a few clips from the article--
To truly in the succeed in a Princeton-oriented offense, you've got to have skills. That's something Kyle Kelm was able to show a lot of during the summer months, and as a result it's earned the 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward prospect a number of scholarship offers. The rising junior from Randolph, Wisconsin isn't ready to do much with his recruitment just yet but the Beavers are hoping that their early interest will stick to the sweet-shooting big man.

"I thought the summer went really good - our team did good and I did pretty good too," Kelm said. "My shooting this summer went pretty good; seemed like everything I shot went in. I was also working on my ball-handilng and getting to the hole. Just my all-around game."

Playing with the Wisconsin Swing AAU program, Kelm displayed inside-outside skills, especially a smooth stroke from beyond the arc. Outside shooting is at a premium in college basketball - especially in big men - so it comes as no surprise that a number of college programs have been in contact with Kelm.

"They've been calling me once a month and keeping in contact," Kelm said. "I don't have a favorite right now as I'm taking it all in. But I've gotten offers from Marquette, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Iowa State, Iowa, Northern Iowa, Bradley, and Oregon State."

Kelm also noted that Washington State and hometown Wisconsin have also expressed interest in his abilities. As noted, he's keeping everybody level at the moment but has taken the time out to recently unofficially visit Iowa.

In no hurry to make any decisions, Kelm would like to see more college campuses - and that includes Oregon State, which has made an impression over the phone.

BU target Kyle Kelm, Class of 2010 is visiting Iowa State this weekend, and this is his 2nd visit there, so
I'd have to think that presently they are in the lead for the kid. He probably is still a year away from committing, as his stock is still rising.

2010 prospect Kyle Kelm says his leader right now is Iowa State, after his visit there.
This new premium article says he has offers from Oregon State, Iowa State, Wisconsin Green-Bay, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also is being heavily recruited by Iowa and Minnesota.
"I had an offer from Iowa but they pulled it back due to them taking another power forward so they are going to wait and see until the spring what to do with their last scholarship," he said. "I want to take some other visits and then I will likely commit at some point during next summer."
He doesn't mention Bradley in this article.
http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=2&c=812808

However, his profile still lists Bradley--

There is a long, 5-page thread on the Iowa State board claiming from sources that Kyle Kelm is "close to committing" and that he will commit to Iowa State.
It's actually a funny thread, though, since half of it centers on fears that they won't have enough scholarships next year for Kelm unless "one of their present players leaves for the NBA"!
Then they are worried that if they land Kelm, they will lose out of 5-Star Harrison Barnes....since Coach McDermott has tied up so many scholarships.

Of course this isn't likely-
...as it's unlikely anybody on their team will be in the NBA next year, but also because Kyle Kelm is a 2010 recruit and won't cost them a scholarship next year at all.....he won't be there for two years!
Plus if the coach needs a scholarship for a kid in 2010, then since nobody has signed a LOI yet, and he can open one up any time he wants.
Not to mention that Harrison Barnes is getting recruited hard by UNC and Duke among others....he isn't likely going to Iowa State.

A new article from the Rivals Minnesota site-
Kelm holds seven offers
http://minnesota.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=922141

Kyle Kelm is a 6'9", 210 pound forward who is a junior (class of 2010) at Randolph, Wisconsin HS. He is averaging 17.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game. His team is 20-2 and is ranked #1 in Wisconsin's Division 4 (small schools).

Here is a clip from the article-
Because of his combination of size, skill, and agility Kelm is ranked as the 130th best prospect in the nation for the junior class and 36th at his position.
"UW-Milwaukee offered Kyle a scholarship before entering high school," said coach Haffele. "UW-Green Bay has offered as well as Iowa (since withdrawn after another player verbally committed), Iowa State, Oregon State, Creighton, and Bradley."
Another team that has shown interest in Kelm is Minnesota.
Kyle is also hearing from Purdue, Washington State, Northern Iowa, Marquette, Saint Louis, LSU, and a little bit from Syracuse.

An article on a Wisconsin recruiting site says Kyle Kelm is n ow down to 5 schools-
North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Saint Louis, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee

Kelm was playing at a very high level for the Wisconsin Swing-Selk squad last May when he broke the outer bone of his foot. He sat out two months, but then re-injured his foot in July.
“The first time he broke it the doctors wanted to let it heal naturally. If Kyle would have had surgery in May, he definitely would have missed playing in July so it was a chance he took.”
.......Kelm had a pin put in his foot during surgery about three weeks ago. Kelm and the coaching staff at Randolph are hopeful the talented senior will be healthy by the time the high school season gets underway in November.

It sounds like he sustained an injury similar to Andrew Warren's, which has hurt his recruiting.

Kyle Kelm back from visit to St. Louis, and now announces plan to visit UW-Milwaukee. He must not have heard what he wanted from Rick Majerus. I don't know where Bradley stands with him.
