Bradley nonconference schedule- includes Michigan State

Bradley has finalized their nonconference schedule. They have agreed to play at Michigan State on December 3. It's part of a 2 for 1 deal. Michigan State will play at Bradley next season, then Bradley will return to East Lansing, Michigan in the 2008-2009 season. This is reported in the Peoria Journal Star, but the link is not yet posted on the website.

Though I wish Bradley didn't have to concede to a 2-1, this is good for Bradley. It helps the RPI of BU and the league. It demonstrates that Les and Kavanagh are committed to putting good games on the schedule, not scheduling cupcakes like some schools do.

Great job, BU. This is a smart move.
Sure, we'd like a 1 for 1, but we might have trouble getting Northwestern to agree to that. This is exactly what they needed to do. Michigan State will have a rare down year next season, since they lost Agar, Brown, and Davis, so Bradley could be competetive. The task will be to win next year and in the 3rd year. That will take further rebuilding, but it can be done.

The only way you are ever going to get the "big boys" to play you is to go to their place. But BU gets a home game against MSU out of this deal.
I like it, there is really nothing to lose.
And I understand the deal with SIU-E, and they will be one of the top D-II's in the nation next season.

After the last blurb about the BU schedule being buried deep in another article, this is interesting that they not only put this story as the headline top story on the sports section, but there was even an above-the-headline mention on Page 1 of the front section.

The story is still not in the online edition of PJ Star.

Bradley could end up with five top BCS opponents,
2 Big East, 2 Big Ten, one Big XII all in about a month's time.

DePaul...11/11
Rutgers 11/24...(in the Chicago Challenge Tournament)
Illinois...11/25........."............."..........."............"
Michigan State 12/2
Iowa State 12/16

I believe this to be the best and toughest schedule in 40 years.

Congrats

That's an excellent job by Les and Co. getting a quality opponent like the Spartans. I don't even mind the 2-1. At least they are making a trip to Peoria. That's a great feather in your cap. Congrats again. Thanks for helping the Valley!!!

Well, let's face it, virtually no BCS school is going to give Bradley a 1-1, so I'm happy with the chance to go there.

The SIU-E game is now completely acceptable now that Michigan St rounds out the schedule. Great job on a great schedule following a great year. Now hopefully we can have some great results.

I was also critical of the SIU-E game being scheduled, but the opportunity to play a quality Big 10 opponent (and positively impact our RPI) makes it easier to accept.

the spartans and tom izzzo are coming to peoria next season. this is great news. like to see more big name schools coming to peoria.

I think this game can help recruiting more than anything. We need a couple of quality, impact bigs for '07-'08, and I think it looks very enticing to a recruit to not only show him the SI, our Sweet 16, and our NBA lottery pick, but to also show him that his freshman year he'll get to take on Iowa St and Michigan St at home.

Uh-oh.

If Izzo's gone... the replacement would undoubtedly try to buy their way out of going to Peoria.

Why is that? It isn't a bad game for MSU either....

What about the Tennessee/Xavier home and home that Pearl wanted out of? Or what about Lousville's contract with W Kentucky (when they had Marcus) a few years back that Pitino wanted out of?

It will cost them an awful lot to get out of it. That's fine if they go that route - More money for facilities!
