Sorry, not excited by the 2nd half comeback

The thing I am making a point of about last nights 2nd half is about our offense out scoring UNI 56 to 41, I keep hearing defense this and defense that and we cannot go out and try to out score anybody, maybe we are using the wrong approach and should start making our offense top priority as based on the 2nd half performance we can go out and out score teams, 56 points is a lot of points in 20 minutes especially when it is against a team that only gives up 58 a game, a different approach might just at least give us a better chance at winning and after 0-5 what have we got to lose.

I'd like to implement Real fan's approach from here on out. What do we have to lose?
By the way, how did we manage to score 56? Did we have a different offense being run or something? Or did AW and WE just catch and shoot whenever possible?

Very good point LB. Why the totally different halves? Did JL stop coaching the 2nd half and the guys just played?

I agree and am sick of the "guys aren't buying in on the defensive end" approach....

Here's a thought....how about trying to score more and win games...we aren't a great defensive team and don't have much if any real depth...so go with what we have and try to score 75...

We'd have a pretty good record if we scored most games and played team ball like we did for 20 minutes last night...

Especially in our conference where everyone is seeming to have trouble scoring...basically leaving every single team in games they shouldn't be in...

At this point IMO offense > defense and we should get back to just worrying about putting the ball in the basket...

NOT trying to downplay the 2nd half. Anytime you can score that many points you must have been doing some things correctly.

As I stated though in agreement with Houston...does this lead BU to something or will it go down as simply a good half of hoops. Weds hopefully well tell us more.

What we have all seen many times is when a team gets up big is they start to let up...its only natural. They, many times start to play NOT to lose vs doing what they did in the first half that got them such a lead.

So while the rally was nice and I applaud the guys for not quitting could this be attributed to a UNI team that let off the gas a little bit.....

I agree...the word consistency comes to mind because in 9 years now I can only recall one stretch of being consistently GOOD while most we've been consistently average or mediocre at best...

Like I said before...there is one common denominator in all of this whether some want to admit it or not.

The point is, people were annoyed when we played well. That must mean, for them to be happy, we need to play poorly. Correct?

If that helps you sleep at night, keep believing that...

People are annoyed as you said because they played 20 minutes of a 40 minute game and have done so all year...

No consistency at all and little changes to impact the record....

That's why people are as you said annoyed

They said it, not me. They said they were annoyed when we played a good second half, insinuating that they would have been happier if we had continued to play poorly. It's their words.

Of course, half was Drew with a lot of his 'patented' shot fakes that make defenders look stupid and gets him a bunch of FT's. (Can we please have WE defend Drew in practice until WE never leaves his feet on D?)

But, everyone else contributed. We had timely 3's from DSE, DD, JE, and even MK. JP had at least one quality, big time post move... We did actually look like a team playing offense instead of a one trick pony..

Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? You cannot possibly believe this. They were "insinuating that they would have been happier" if they had played that well earlier! They were annoyed with the good second half because it shows the capability of playing really well, and they haven't been doing it. They were annoyed that they played so poorly in the first half when they clearly have the ability to play better. They don't want Bradley to be bad. Come on Eileen!

I doubt anyone is annoyed we played well, more like frustrated why it only happens once in awhile, this season is on the brink so my idea is to worry more about outscoring teams and less about the defensive end, might just loosen up the players so they perform much better as I think they are being told to worry too much about their defense.

I guess we all read into things differently but you sound as though you WANT people to feel that way.

People are "annoyed" becuase it seems as if their IS some talent but no constant effort.

Personally I think people are reading into a good half that was probably due to a decreased effort by UNI as much as it was BU playing up to what they can play.

One half doesn't tell me as much as 5 games tell me.....

Again IF we turn it around we can all look back on this half that got it going. If not it was just another half of basketball that ended in a loss.

I'm not even going to waste time responding to those saying anyone would have been happier if we would have played poorer in the second half. You can't rationally communicate with people trying to spin things like that.

I started this thread and won't dispute the following things:

-the second half and comeback were exciting
-I saw a lot of things from different guys that we can build on
-it was nice to see our offense come to life

But if that game didn't frustrate and disappoint you, then I'm not sure we were watching th same game. Knowing that we are most likely playing Thursday and will finish the year with a losing record, all I'm looking for is each and every player and coach to give maximum focus and effort every minute of every game. If they do that, and build towards something good next year, I'm fine if we lose every game and will enjoy the developmental process and look positively to the future.

But to consistently watch the focus, preparation and concentration of all involved drift in and out every game is cheating the fans, boosters and themselves. And having to consistenly listen to the same tired excuses, apologies and rationalizations has reached a boiling point for me. If we are going to be average at best and show little to no signs of improvement or adjustments in virtually all areas after 9 years, I'm ready to let another regime give it a shot. What do we have to lose?

Fair enough, but the first half is what frustrated me. The 2nd half actually made me happy.

Same here. I was very happy with the second half, I thought we were going to win it. Will Egolf looked like I always thought he could play, every game I hope is a confidence builder for our players, so hopefully this will be one for him, he was making some extended shots. Best game he's played. There is a core group here still developing and when you add 6 good players next year we could be a very good, deep team. I think we all knew the season would be tough when we lost Sam and Taylor, I thought it wouldn't be as tough as it is so I was wrong but I'll still be watching the video stream Wednesday and pulling for the Braves. The season didn't turn out the way we hoped it would but we don't make the plays or shoot the ball, maybe we'll get a surprise in March.

:)

On the range of human emotions, I was thinking there was a much wider range on either side of annoyed.

Could they not be dismayed? Angry? Or is happy the only alternative?

I like this, I like this A LOT! What have we got to lose. Turn AW Hersey Hawkins style loose for the last half of this season. Keep the two bigs 5-10 from the basket, let the guards set screens for each other and start throwing the ball up, what have we got to lose! Run-and gun, up-tempo game, fast breaks, slams, tip-dunks. I want to see these guys actually sweat, I mean sweat pouring off the body sweat, bent over grabbing the shorts gasping for air type of sweat. There's plenty of time for rest during timeouts and free throws. Turn the dogs loose....

Go Bears :)
