Slightly OT: Top Ten Valuable Basketball Cards

Ben -- whoever wrote that piece is the only one that can explain ther answer why that card sold anywhere for $10K

First the very card he's talking about doesn't have Magic Johnson on it, as noted it's Marques Johnson...so it just isn't worth that much...

AND -- it's actually a pretty common card that even in near mint condition goes for only around $50 (see link below) -- so if some version of it went for $10,000 it must have been super-ultra mint condition - autographed in gold ink...or been a proof or prototype!

I did some research on another message board that I frequent, and the BVG 10 grade is for a card in "pristine condition." Therefore the perceived "value" to someone? :-o I guess PT Barnum was right!

Like you said, I was also under the impression that the Bird card sold was/is plentiful as is the Jordan rookie!

--On a side note, I always thought that the 1933 Sports Kings Nat Holman card mentioned in the article was cool. -- and a card of a person very indirectly related to Bradley basketball history--

Perhaps the rarest older issue basketball card of any Bradley player is this one..
a 1951 Berk Ross Paul Unruh -- often being offered for over $100..

T, I found out about the Berk-Ross issue as a result of a post of yours a while back. If a person is patient, they can pick up the Unruh card for far less in an auction. --especially the detached Unruh panel-- Several months ago, I won an auction for the Berk Ross Unruh/Waitkus complete panel, graded by SGC (SGC 86 --NM 7.5) for $40. As a matter of fact, I planned on using that Unruh card for my avatar when the basketball season nears. :)

That Chet Walker Nabisco issue is hilarious! It certainly doesn't stand the test of time!
