BU Beats UW-Parkside 87-77

FTR- Dyricus' injury was simple cramping of his calf muscle. There was no danger to putting him back in the game. It was Oked by the trainer, and the team doctor, so I assume they know how to handle those things.

Well just call me a negative Nellie, but what I saw tonight was nothing short of a cr@pfest!

...
Walt should be our 2 guard, with DSE at the point for now. If we make that adjustment, Walt will have a big year for us!
...
Can someone explain to me why we put DSE back into the game after the injury scare late in the second half? If this were a regular season game, I could understand this. Even if DSE was cramping up, why risk injuring DSE by him making an awkward move in an EXHIBITION GAME! SMH!!!!!!

Nice game from TB and DS. I am not ready to anoint DS as the starting PG, but it was nice to see Stewart distribute the ball tonight and I like his outside shot.

Jake was his usual scrappy self. I would love to see him make some threes!

I agree 110% with everything I quoted of yours above. I thought we looked terrible tonight, I was pining for the weave by the end of the night, at least it was some semblance of an offense. Your final statement though, I can't agree with at all, no way you can judge Geno based off one exhibition game whatsoever.

Geno, I have been incredibly neutral about your hiring. From what I have seen from your first game as a Bradley coach, I want a refund on my ticket!

Beninator is right about the sloppy play. And I heard the coach talk about that on his show. They will watch the tape and work on the problems. But I think most of the sloppy play comes from the numerous combinations of players playing and the frequent substitutions. They have only been practicing for 2 weeks and we have a lot of new players. I liked what Nate Wells can give the team, he just needs to learn how to block without fouling.

Wow! Just wow! :( It was their first game Ben.... cut them some slack. It was just practice man. Practice.

My point is that this team was not prepared to play this game albeit an exhibition game. I understand that there will be sloppy play and missed rotations, and that we are throwing a lot of young players out there. But a lot of our players had no clue as to their assigned duties on the floor. I blame the staff on that and hope to see improvement in this area by the next game.

You are aware this is a roster from a team that finished in last place last season, lost three starters, and has an entirely new system in play correct??? And it was the first game of the season??

Tough crowd :)

I saw Coach Kevin Eastman at the game tonight. He had to be happy and proud to see Jake start tonight, and have a great game.
Jake's value to this team is easy to underestimate, but he had 13 points and 8 rebounds (tied for team high) including 5 offensive board in just 25 minutes of playing time. And he guarded UW-P's big men all night and only recorded 1 foul.

Good point. Its obvious Jake will play a lot of minutes. If he can become a threat from the three point line he would bring added value. Good for him.

I really like the potential for SS. I wasn't impressed with JE overall, but I know I'm in the minority with that opinion. JP looked solid on offense and slow on DEF. Idk if that is from being injured or just poor defensive awareness. TB is clearly the most talented player on the floor and looked really good for a year off.

I thought that overall TB, DSE, and WL looked the best. DS was really good as well. As others have said, WL doesn't belong in the PG role.

I was overall impressed with the way BU played. A lot of the game was sloppy, but that is to be expected with the first exhibition. I'd like to see more of the offense run through TB and some better 3pt shooting going forward. FT shooting clearly needs improvement.

He also had several rebounds tapped away from him by his own teammates, or he would have had double digit rebounds. :)

On the down side- he missed on all 3 three point shots, and they were all pretty wide open. I have heard Jake is shooting a lot better in practices, so I think those shots will start falling for him.

Very much aware of this. But I expect much more from a coach who is among the upper echelon of the pay scale in the MVC.;-)

I very much like the potential for SS as well. Even though he wasn't at his best tonight, he displayed some flashes of what he will become in the future.

My impressions: It would be nice to redshirt Nate Wells, but unless we can be sure we can get minutes every game from Anthony Thompson, we may need Nate.

Taylor Brown- if he plays every game, he'll be the leading scorer in the MVC.

Dyricus- he is the glue that holds the team together and we need him to stay healthy. lets hope the injury is just cramping.

Jordan looked frustrated by the big men banging him all night. The refs called a lot of touch fouls, but allowed a lot of banging inside. As a former coach, I just can't understand why that always seems to be the way games are called.

Shayok has tremendous potential. He handles the ball very well for a tall guy. He could become a dominant scorer. He needs to play to his strengths instead of settling for the jump shot.

Jake is a valuable player who will do whatever the team needs. He had a nice game tonight.

Walt looked a little out of control all night.

Jalen looked a little like Walt all night.

It would be nice if we could get Milos some shots, but he doesn't seem to have a position he can play.

And Donivine looked reallly good for a freshman.

It will be fun to watch this group develop.

After just 2 weeks of practice and one game? :?: :? COME ON MAN :!: :!: :!:

Will have to agree to disagree. Not asking for the moon with my comments, but certainly more than what I saw tonight against a division II team. The next game is an opportunity to change my opinion. :)

I agree, to me Jake is the type of player that a winning team needs, someone who does things throughout the game that don't show up on the stat sheet but are necessary for the team to win. My only gripe with him, and granted this is based on last year and has nothing to do with tonight, is that he needs to be more aggressive on the offensive end of the court. I'm not saying that we should rely on Jake to carry us offensively or even that he needs to be a consistent scorer, but I felt like consistently last season he would get the ball and not even look at the basket or consider shooting. I fear that if he turns himself into such a non-threat that teams will pick up on it and start to sag off him or double someone like TB.
