MVC exhibition games Saturday 11/5

More-

Butler bounces back and whallops Franklin 91-53,

Boston College barely squeaks by American International 70-66

DePaul playing Lewis and it's tied 27-27 near the end of 1st half

most coaches would not encourage their kids to launch more wild three's at the end of a major blowout...least of all a nearly 60-pt exhibition blowout...
that's what the whole other discussion was about that I linked to.....

Missouri State up by 40+ - MSU not launching 3's and playing deep subs

SIU up by 38 in final 5 min...Missouri S&T is shooting 3's but SIU is NOT, and hasn't shot a 3 since about the 9 min mark and are playing their subs

IU beats Indianapolis 90-72 and even coasting in the 2nd half Matt Roth gets only a few minutes of play after intermission..
totalling only 8 minutes in the game and 2 shots - Roth & Pritchard - both Kelvin Sampson recruits - played fewer minutes than any other
scholarship player and even less than some walk-ons....

Right but you were claiming that some people chided Jim Les for having his team do that but we're then praising Greg Lansing for having his players do it. No one did either of those things.

Do you know that they were "wild " three pointers?

Anyway....you thought it was poor practice. I didn't. No biggie.

There's a reason Marshall was sure upset when BU did it to him and why JL was apologetic and on the defensive and why KW was critical....and the maddest I ever saw any college coach get was when the same thing happened to Royce Waltman...

The Bradley-Wichita game in question wasn't exactly an issue of running up the score per se. It was of Chris Roberts shooting a long three pointer at the buzzer.

To me "running up the score" means the coach has the direct intent of rubbing it in or trying to prove a point. That was not what happened in that game. Did Chris Roberts take an ill advised and unnessecary shot? Sure. But thats just a kid doing something without thinking. Jim Les want trying to run up the score there nor did he instruct his players to do so.

I also don't think Greg Lansing was trying to "stick it to " Truman State or trying to prove a point. I doubt he was intentionally trying to do something like that.

But as I've said before. You will never hear me complain about coaches running up the score at this level. One---if they do it they know what goes around, comes around and they will eventually get it back. And two---no player worth his salt wants the opponent to go easy on them, hold the ball, or back off. They want the opponent to keep playing as hard as they can.

disagree -- it was exactly an example of running up the score -- later CRob admitted he knew BU's score was a point short of the bonus offer on the back of the fans' tickets for free food...
so he conceded he was trying to help the crowd -- that's an even weaker argument than bettering the score for stats' sake

Looks like Quincy has no legs playing their 3rd game in less than 3 days.
ISU is up 52-34 @ half

Oklahoma State is losing to Oklahoma Baptist 16-14 with 7 minutes left in 1st half
UConn beat CW Post 91-61 - Andre Drummond 16 & 10

A lower division NAIA (NAIA D-II) St. Ambrose was within 3 points against Saint Louis in the final couple minutes of the game
but had to foul and ended up losing by 11...but they put quite a scare into Majerus & team

SIU faculty is on strike -- it'll be interesting to see if this affects their extracurricular activites...
Obviously Chris Lowery is working during the strike...

its only the tenure track faculty on strike, and even then not all the tenure track faculty are honoring the strike. also, Lowery isn't considered faculty. Classes are being covered by deans, emeritus faculty, and non striking faculty. Some siu faculty are even trying to de-certify the current faculty association and replace it with new repersentation

3K attendance - good for an exhibition game - was it part of the season package?

It was. ISU still only counts people actually at the game ("butts in the seats")

Ekey played the most minutes with 23. 5 others had 20 minutes of game tie (Carmichael, Wilkins, Threloff, Cousin, and Nic Moore)

I think t needs to find those people and personally tell them how he feels. How dare he bring it up on a public message board? ;)

I understand Shaun but to me it didn't make any sense. No big deal. He thought what Chris Roberts did and Greg Lansing did was classless and running up the score. I disagreed. No big deal. Also no one was "lauding" Greg Lansing.

I've made my feelings known on the running up the score debate at the NCAA D1 level. As I've said--ask the players about it. They NEVER want a team to take it easy on them in a game. NEVER. At least not ones that are worth having.

That is a great number for an exhibition game, especially for a team that tied for last place and playing on Sunday when everyone would supposedly rather be somewhere else watching their fantasy football teams. Then again....maybe that's just Bradley fans that don't like Sunday afternoon basketball.

Huh?

I'm not sure which part you're questioning.

That IS a great number for an exhibition game for a team that tied for last place.

The game was on Sunday afternoon.

I've heard from numerous people that games should not be scheduled on Sunday afternoons.

The main reason those people give is because the NFL plays on Sunday and a good number of people would rather be somewhere watching the NFL (and their fantasy football teams).

Those people are Bradley fans.
