Snell calls out Bradley students for not showing up!

Dave Snell just took a shot at the Bradley students for not showing up tonight! He estimates only around 30 showed up for this game. He hopes more show up on Wednesday night at the Reinassance Center. Don't know if he was slightly exaggerating that number, but maybe someone who attended the game can verify that.

I was one of the students who was there, and I was shocked at the low number. 30 seems a little low. I'd estimate around 50 students, but there still weren't that many.

Yes, it was more like 40 and the ones who were there were loud and into the game. But we need more!

Kudos to the students who were there -- they do as good of a job as they can be expected but we need the BAND!!!!!

Well glad the band was only out for today. But they still need more than 40 or so non-band students to really get the crowd going. But agreed that the students who were there sounded loud, and the crowd definitely got into the game at several key points.

It was sad to see the small number of students at the game.

I thought the crowd, small as it was, was quite vocal when the action called for it.

Dan DiOrio made a comment over the B.tv feed before the game regarding the attendance. Can't remember the exact words. "Seriously disappointing," maybe.

I thought the attendance was good considering the time, and the conflicts with church activities, football, etc.

Absolutely pathetic! And the Greeks should be ashamed! Come on man! Get your people to the game!

Maybe somebody can tell us what if anything Bradley is doing to create a competitive atmosphere to encourage the Greek organizations to compete for attendance at games?

Bradley is trying to get Greek life involved. On Wednesday, which ever Greek chapter has the most people attend the game gets the benefits from the student tickets.

Not trying to put you on the spot, as I am all for BU making the extra effort for student involvement, but is this an incentive that will generate much excitement among the Greek organizations?

All we can do is try. I don't know whether or not his will attract Greek life, since I'm not a member myself, but I've heard some interest from members of Greek life about this idea. Not sure how much it will help, if any. I'm just hoping for the best.

I am taking the benefits part as being a cut from the student ticket sales correct? Back in the day at the first school I went to before transferring to Bradley, we were rewarded with keg parties.8) Those days are long gone though.

More than anything else Greek organizations want recognition and prestige among their fellow Greeks. They all want to be thought of as the best. They'd compete like crazy if BU promised them a radio or TV promotional spot or mention. They'd also compete for a spot on a billboard on or near campus, or a big congratulations banner hung on Bradley Hall.

I was a Greek..... They're all about ego and "face time". ;)

This is what I am talking about Braves4life.8) Find something that can get the Greeks involved and create competition. When done right, you get participation and a fun atmosphere.

As far as today goes, this is the end of Greek Week which is a pretty big deal among the Greeks. Right now, in fact, they are at the RC doing their biggest event of the year. A lot of them will not go to a Sunday game when Panfrasing falls on the same day. The student turnout seemed about right to me. We played UMKC and most of the students couldn't even tell you what UMKC stands for.

We can complain and whine and what not about the students, but that is not going to get them out. When I was on the interfraternity council board, Jim Les came to one of our Joint Council, which is the biggest meetings among fraternity and sorority boards, and promoted Bradley Basketball and doing incentives for the Greeks because he was one. I think that the Greek turnout that year was lower than I had ever seen it. It will take a lot to get them out unfortunately and I honestly don't know what will actually do it.

On a positive note, I want to give kudos to the Greeks that are there. I know the most, if not all, leaders of the Red Sea are involved in a Greek House and they try to do the best they can to get them out.

Sorry I don't have any ideas, wish I did, but that is just the way it is on campus right now. Especially after how disappointing last year was. I don't think I missed virtually any home games my first 4 years at Bradley, but last year, my 5th year, I think I only went to 2 because it was painful to watch our team.

I went tonight and while we didn't look so good for a while, we scrapped up a win. I think that will be the forte for this team even though I would definitely prefer some more blowouts :D

I know you weren't looking for a novel from me, but just wanted to get my thoughts out there.

Good points... I know it was tough for me to go to the game today after settling into my regular Sunday routine. 8)
