Western Kentucky fires head coach

tornado

they pull the trigger mid-season on Ken McDonald...
WKU is off to a 5-11 start this season but was 67-49 in the three years previously under McDonald...
The head spot is being taken over by assistant coach Ray Harper who was the head coach at Western Kentucky University in 2002-2003 when they were hit with serious major infractions by NCAA for using ineligibile players - requiring KWU to vacate their entire season and go on 3 years probation...

they lost a ton to graduation last year and have 7 freshmen --

BTW -- they also just got cheated out of their last win because the other team was using 6 players on the floor and the refs did not call it..

Rumor that the next head coach at WKU may come from the Valley...

I am not doubting that, but just trying to think of who would want to go there, I can only think of two. And I don't know why either of them would be wanted by WKU.

Unless you mean someone who is not a Valley head coach.

thinking perhaps an assistant --
BTW -- ESPN's Andy Katz says the incident with 6 players on the floor was the trigger to firing McDonald..

and he also has a Jim Molinari mention but not as a prospective coach at WKU...
I cannot imagine any school anywhere in Division-I would give permission mid-season for their head coach to talk with anyone else - least of all a prospective new employer who'd hire right now..

So if WKU is gonna hire now it would have to be an assistant from somewhere or someone who is currently waiting in the wings to be hired...
