KMOX St. Louis Shootout

tornado

Once the premier high school basketball shootout/tournament in the nation, now they have fallen on hard times.
The recent Tournament of Champions in Peoria and the Marshall Co. Hoopfest seem to have drawn the
bst talent and nobody left over wants to go to the St. Louis Shootout.
The tournament director even states in this St. Louis Post Dispatch article that he
"wonders if his tournament can still compete."

The Shootout used to be an amazing event of all day basketball. I went SIUE and every year we would go over STL for the shootout. I saw Penny Hardaway, Rashid Wallace, Randy Livingston, who might have been the most amazing high school player I have ever seen, Corliss Williamson who put up a 40 point 20 board game and many others. The tourney would easily put 10K or more during the day and would increase as the day became night. To bad the tourney is falling on hard times.

I went to the Shootout last year and saw Chase Budinger (now at Arizona) and Thaddeus Young (now at GT). There was a good crowd there and I hope that the event can continue.

I think Ronnie Fields was the most amazing high school player, but maybe you never seen him, so i'll take your word on Corliss Williamson.

I am still mad about my schools trip to the KMOX shootout, 2003 West Aurora vs Seattle Rainier Beach, when they had Lodrick and Rodrick Stewart (who are now at USC and Kansas). Lots of ticky tack foul calls and we couldnt make our free throws when it was our turn. I think we lost in overtime.

It is/was a great event.
