Bad news for ISU - All-MVC Reggie Lynch is transferring

Another setback for Illinois State- Senior Tony Wills, who was projected as the starting 2-guard just underwent sports hernia surgery. He could be out 6-8 weeks.-

As many Bradley fans might recall, Daniel Ruffin had sports hernia surgery his senior season (2007-08 ), and missed about a month. Bradley had a very good team that year and had pre-conference wins over Iowa and Iowa State. But they lost 5 of their first 6 games to start the MVC schedule without Ruffin. Even when he returned to action for the final weeks of the season, he was not as effective as he was prior to the surgery. It resulted in Bradley quickly falling out of the MVC race and finishing 9-9 in a season they were projected to compete for the title.
Bradley was picked 2nd behind SIU in the 2007-08 MVC preseason poll-

Note that Drake, who won the MVC title that season, was picked 9th by the coaches & media.

ISU's transfer Reggie Lynch in the news again

ISU's transfer Reggie Lynch in the news again

More bad news regarding former Redbird big man Reggie Lynch. .....arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, jailed, and held without bail in the Hennepin County jail....

this other episode happened almost 2 years ago- but wait....now there's more...

..even tho the police failed to pursue charges on one sexual assault, the victim in this case is now pursuing justice on a
SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT CHARGE OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND now a University panel has reviewed the claims
and has found that Lynch "was responsible".

"The new suspension focuses on an incident the month before the already investigated May incident. The April incident occurred in Lynch’s dorm room, the woman said."

"University of Minnesota men’s basketball star Reggie Lynch faces suspension and a complete ban from campus
until at least 2020 after a school investigation found him responsible in a sexual misconduct incident."

Lynch will likely appeal so he can finish his career playing for Minnesota.

More on Reggie Lynch-

I guess justice moves slowly on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The University and the Hennepin County attorney declined to press rape charges for the May 8, 2016 incident in which Lynch was accused by a 19-year old student, because the investigation concluded that Lynch "reasonably believed" the sex was consensual. So he was reinstated to the team in September, 2016 just in time for the 2016-17 season.

But now the University of Minnesota’s Office for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action has concluded an investigation into a completely separate incident, also in the spring of 2016, in which a 20-year old student from another university claimed she was raped by Lynch.
In this case, Lynch was found guilty of violating the University’s rules on sexual misconduct in this separate incident.
According to a copy of report obtained by the Twin Cities Pioneer Press (see article below), effective Jan. 9, Lynch’s “university studentship will be suspended with a disciplinary hold placed on his record preventing him from registering at the school. That may be re-established no earlier than Aug. 1, 2020.
He also is banned from campus, including “all university events.”
https://www.twincities.com/2018/01/04/gophers-center-reggie-lynch-faces-suspension-until-2020/

So basically, he is expelled and banned from campus and from all events, which I presume will include basketball games, and not allowed to register for their 2nd semester. So it would seem his career is done. Head Coach Richard Pitino is scheduled to meet with the media today, but I suspect he is working hard to find a way around this.

This second investigation has been going on since Spring of 2016. So basically, Reggie Lynch was investigated for almost 2 years for this latest case of rape, and never was suspended a minute or missed a single game. Why do sleazy things like this happen when there is a Pitino around?

so you say he should have been kicked off the team on the word of an unnamed accuser?
I have no problem with him being given the benefit of the doubt & considered innocent
until the case worked its way thru whatever channels and now he is deemed "responsible" - that's just how the system works.

Once he had decided to transfer from ISU the stories started to come out about some of his actions. Never heard anything that would be a crime but a lot of creepiness.

and Lynch was suspended
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...r-reggie-lynch-criminal-sexual-conduct-arrest

but Ruffin wasn't suspended and remain inactive til his case was finally resolved

He was never suspended or punished for this current case. Lynch was suspended after the 19-year old U of M student accused him of rape in early May, 2016. No charges were filed in that case, and he was eventually reinstated in September, 2016.

However, at about the same time, May of 2016, there was a second girl, a 20-year old who was a student at another college, who accused Lynch of rape. That accusation was kept secret for the past 20 months while it was being investigated by the University Office for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action.
During that time, Lynch was never suspended nor punished in any way, and the whole case was a highly guarded secret until now. The Pioneer Press was able to get the documents related to this latest case and Lynch's dismissal through an FOIA request, which is the only way this ever became public.

And yes, Daniel Ruffin was indeed suspended several games back in 2008, until the University President did her own investigation, interviewed witnesses, and came to the conclusion that Daniel was innocent of the charges. He was then reinstated.

more on Reggie Lynch
he is appealing but won't play during the appeal process...
lots of excuses and alibis from the staff & admin as to why they ignored so many red flags...but one line kinda answers it...
"The 6-foot-10, 265-pound center, an Edina native, has been considered an NBA prospect because of his height, expansive reach and shot-blocking ability. .....his impressive performances on the court, including being named Big Ten defensive player of the year for the 2016-17 season.."

Minnesota's season ended last night with a sad performance -
a 65-54 loss to bottom-seeded Rutgers...

Just to show how much chaos Reggie Lynch caused and the harm that resulted from the negative press coverage...

-Minnesota was 13-3 when Reggie Lynch got suspended, they had just beaten Illinois and were on a 5 game winning streak and looked like an NCAA tournament caliber team - even a win over a Top 25 team on their resume...

- From Jan. 5th on, when the Reggie Lynch story broke, Minnesota has gone 2-14 including a nine-game losing stretch. Now they aren't going anywhere and people are grumbling about the head coach...
