2018 & Beyond recruiting targets

New name-

2018 juco Marcell Haskett- 6'1" junior college combo guard currently a sophomore at New Mexico Junior College. He is originally from Suffolk, Virginia, and attended Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Virginia, where he averaged 21.5 ppg his junior year and over 23 ppg his senior season (2014-15), and was All-State in Class 6A (largest schools) both his junior and senior seasons in Virginia. He had a lot of D1 recruiting interest, and several D1 offers. He committed to Mount St. Mary's College of the Northeast Conference, but did not qualify and spent an additional year at a prep school (2015-16 at Spire Institute in Geneva, OH). He got several additional D1 offers, but ended up going to a Division II school (Lincoln Memorial University) because he apparently still did not qualify for D1. He only played in 1 game for LMU early in the 2016-17 season, and then transferred and played the following year (2017-18 ) at New Mexico Junior College where he averaged a team-leading 15.4 ppg, and a team-leading 3.0 assists per game this past season.

Still seems surprisingly quiet on the recruiting front with the spring signing period coming quickly. Any rumors floating out there???

Personally hoping to lock Boya up and another shooter. Stoked for the return of The Pitt. The development of Bar as a rebounder and shot blocker.

Yes, very quiet. I have not heard anything definite about impending signings. However, we have posted an unprecedented number of recruit names, so I know our coaches are working harder than ever to bring in the talent they need to keep "The Movement" going. :)

If I had to guess, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't sign anyone right away on Wednesday (the first day of the signing period). I know the coaches were setting up visits, and I don't know if they have gotten those all done yet. Let's hope we hear something soon. I hope we can break the news here!

Koreem Ozier - teammate of Aristide Boya at SCS - from Wisconsin, but we have not offered - LINK

Bradley never offered, but I think he will be a good scorer at DI...
Koreem Ozier is a high scoring SG who was teammate of Ari Boya this year at Scotland Campus,
and he is originally from Racine WI - he has taken 3 visits (Sacred Heart, Robert Morris, Grambling) and tweets that he will announce and sign his LOI tomorrow.
His most recent visit was RMU...

Bradley is pursuing transfer Te'Jon Lucas

2019 Stephan Gabriel of Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a 6'5" wing ....
Bradley has offered

New article on Stephan Gabriel - he prominently mentions his Bradley offer at the top of his list, and he is still in the process of doing the paperwork to reclassify as 2019.
One other note - he has sprouted up to 6-8, but he seems to be hoping for a high major offer..

Messiah Jones is a good prospect, and I am not sure why he isn't getting more offers. He played mostly the power forward position at Simeon, and he's only about 6'5". Maybe that is why he isn't getting more interest. But if he improves his game, I think he could become a pretty good player in the MVC, similar to Donte Thomas.

Wow, sounds like he should have stuck with Drake. I thought more Mid-majors would be interested.
and as schools get into the signing period with open scholarships, we tend to see even the most obscure available recruits get swamped by programs that are desperately trying to not get caught with short benches... So I would not be surprised if, like Brady Ernst a couple years ago, he gets some late-appearing high major offers and then he might spurn the best offer just to sit the bench and waste a year like Ernst did at Iowa State.

If you read the tweets by Messiah Jones' father - he says he really valued his offer & commitment to Drake because he felt assured that Messiah was going to be a key part of the rebuild - but that in the 10-11 days since DeVries was hired at Drake, he did NOT get the same feeling of assurance...
problem is, no matter what was said and no matter how obvious the fact is that a kid has to EARN his playing time - some kids appear to think they are automatically entitled to massive minutes just because they think they recall such a promise.

anyone remember Tyrone Cole-Scott? - whose performance in his entire first full year at Bradley was horrific- and yet he told Dave Reynolds (who then printed it as an attack against JL as if it was fact) that he was given a promise & assurance that he would get all of Will Franklin's minutes.
Of course our coaching staff never made any such promise- nor would they ever or any coaching staff worth diddley ever would, as kids have to earn playing time.

also- a couple players we have tracked just made the NJCAA (juco) All Americans
Adres Feliz (just verablled to Illinois) - First Team DI
Tremell Murphy (BU offer) - First Team DI
Javeion Eaves (former Evansville, playing at John A. Logan) - 2nd Team DI
Alonzo Verge (former BU recruit now at Moberly Area CC) - 2nd Team DI
Mohamed Thiam (Marshalltown - Bradley recruit) - 3rd Team DI
Jordan Brangers (BU recruit) - Honorable Mention
Tray Croft - First Team DII
..kind of amazed that David Sloan (John A. Logan) didn't get a mention - 12 ppg, 39% from 3-pt, 5 rpg, and an amazing 9.5 assists per game - a number that leads all of college basketball at every level -- plus 3.4 A/T Ratio

Here is a recently compiled highlight video of his senior season.
