Learfield Sports in the news

The sports promotion/media company Bradley dealt with was Nelligan but they were bought out by Learfield - so now we are a Learfield property..

but Learfield recently made big corporate deals with FANDUEL - the daily "Fantasy" (really sports betting) website that many schools are trying to distance themselves from since they are being deeming a gambling operation.
Many states (Illinois, Texas, New York) are ruling they are illegal - LINK, LINK, LINK

but the Learfield people just wanna make money so they say...
"We are providing exposure for Fanduel.." said Jennifer Duncan, a Learfield representative. "..they are a legal company.."

Several schools & arenas are even removing Fanduel advertising that was present in the arenas they use and want to distance themselves from the operations but won't that be hard if their own marketing organization is in bed with those sites?

uh oh ...bad move...
Both Fanduel and Draft Kings have caved to pressure from amateur sports to drop their offers of college and high school games

Learfield in the news again...

Providence Equity - who owns " a controlling interest in Learfield Communications Inc. " - is looking to put Learfield up for sale & unload

"Providence is working with Moelis & Co. to find a buyer for Learfield,
said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private."

LEARFIELD is a "company that buys and sells media and marketing rights for 120 college programs.."
(actually 122) .............. and Bradley is one of them...

ISU signs on with a multimedia deal with LEARFIELD..
they are the 8th MVC school to do so

And I found this article interesting...

University of New Mexico sold NAMING RIGHTS to both their football stadium and basketball arena FOR $1 MILLION!
http://www.ladailypost.com/content/unm-receives-1-million-naming-rights-deal

What makes that interesting to me, tho is that just a few years ago BRADLEY had a DONOR offering to pay $3 MILLION
for the naming rights
JUST for our PRACTICE FACILITY!!!!!
We all know how that turned out - the "Admin" at that time chose instead to run the guy off and lost the $3 mil gift!!

Learfield swallows up another competitor by merger...
this time they merge with IMG College properties
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Morning-Buzz/2017/09/19/Learfield.aspx

They are the two largest corporations who hold the rights to college sports marketing...
They will now control the marketing rights for over 200 of the 351 NCAA Division I schools...mostly midmajors & smaller schools...but a large percentage of the big guys as well.

"Fox Sports, JMI Sports, Outfront Media and Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment" also own some college's marketing rights.
.."Of the 65 schools in the Power Five (Conferences), Auburn (Fox), USC (Fox), Michigan State (Fox), Clemson (JMI), Kentucky (JMI), LSU (Outfront), Maryland (Outfront), Virginia (Outfront) and Notre Dame (free agent) do not have their multimedia rights with Learfield or IMG College."
