State of Illinois may soon have one fewer DI schools

I have also heard rumors that Eastern Illinois University may, at some point, be closed due to a drastically declining enrollment and lack of funding.

This is why Willie Scott chose not to take the head coaching job at Chicago State when it was offered to him in 2010. Instead he joined the Bradley staff as an assistant. He knew the program at Chicago State was in terrible financial condition, and would likely shut down. It is an impossible place to be successful.
 
...the Trib story says the coaching staff literally clips coupons to use on the road for cheaper motel stays & food... amazing...

Come on Illinois legislature- quit playing games with these kids

I've been to many CSU games. Beautiful arena, some talented players, but no fan base whatsoever. 100 fans at a game is the norm. Tough situation.
 
I know it'll sound funny but...there really isn't any reason Chicago State couldn't be a Cleveland State, a Wichita State or a Long Beach State or a San Diego State, or even a Kent State...
they're in a nice recruiting area, they have the population base if the campus, academics, and other amenities were funded & would be a draw, and if the kind of effort & $ went into it as the Mayor is throwing at the DePaul Arena.

Chicago State has a beautiful, nearly new on-campus arena, so I highly doubt they would leave to go play in a neutral arena. They draw a generously reported average of just 900 fans per home game on campus, so does anyone think they'd draw more if they moved to the city-owned arena in the South Loop?

All 900 employees at Chicago State University receiving layoff notices, including the University President and all administration. The operating funds are about to run out, and little hope the state will come up with more money. Layoff notices are a necessary step before they start letting people go, which will come next.

The good news - If they do shut down, their players will be allowed to transfer without any penalty...

The not so good news - not many of their players are DI caliber...
their leading scorer (Fred Sims) is a freshman, and they have a guy who averages 10pt/8reb
 
There is no possible way Bradley could improve themselves by taking a transfer from Chicago State. That will not happen.

A few years ago, CSU had there very good players: Carl Montgomery, David Holston and John Cantrell that definitely could have helped BU. Today, not so much.
