Bradley releasing THREE freshmen

So are you saying we are planning on dropping 1+ of the foreign kids and they are trying to figure out how to do drop them from a scholie without getting them deported?

No. Not exactly.
I have heard 3 freshmen are leaving - and that one player may have issues - could be a 4th player - even one who is NOT leaving or it could be an incoming player.....two of whom we know are on visas

Still no official confirmation...

but if you remember the way it went down last year...it happened in multiple successive releases & reports...

-Shortly after Coach Wardle was hired, there were unofficial reports of multiple players leaving.
-then there was confirmation of releases granted for Cunningham, Amerson, Sutherland, Taylor, and Wells
-then a couple days later, confirmation that Fields, then Grier would be leaving
-then confirmation Morgan was leaving
-then a report that Xzavier Taylor had changed his mind and wanted to stay
-followed the next day by a report than he failed to show up for a workout and was let go
-then a full four months later - Warren Jones dismissed

Official BU release...
Joel Okafor
Davante Cooper
Scottie James
...all granted their release

I am sad to see them go - I felt each had certain abilities & talent that could have been developed and each had the potential to be solid DI players.
I especially thought Scottie had the athleticism and quickness to really help down the road - and with Joel- you can never have enough depth at point guard. Davante showed a nice mid-range jumper and you can't coach size! Good luck to each - and as always, we will still follow you guys and hopefully post about your successes.

Best of luck to Joel, Davante, and Scottie in their next stops. Hopefully we can find two more quality recruits and continue to build for the future. What are we looking for in our last two scholarships?

Completely agree on James as he did some good things on the court. Could be one of those players that fans will say...."one that got away".

the signs were there - in the game that really mattered - last week in St. Louis...
Scottie played 2 minutes
Joel played 1 minute
Davante played zero minutes

The team needs shooters and more athleticism. I don't think these departures will hurt Bradley if they can land a juco shooter, which I hear could happen soon, and another athletic big man.

perhaps someone we have mentioned here before...
perhaps someone who is among the national leaders in NJCAA in 3-pt shooting?

just saw a comment that Scottie was homesick and wanted to go back to Florida...
LOL - but their entire family no longer lives in Florida...in fact Scottie's got family in the midwest, however currently his mom & dad live in Virginia, and his mother is a professor at Lynchburg's Liberty University.

If Scottie transfers and leaves the midwest, of course his prior offers in Florida might interest him or he might look out east.

I, personally, think James might have the most upside of the 3 players. Heard last weekend in StL that he was pretty laid back and didn't always show the passion that is needed at this level and that Coach wanted from him.
I think SJ and JO will do OK in the right setting which might have to be a low mid major. DC is still a project and might need to redshirt a year and then start to contribute by his 4th year.
Good Luck to all 3 of these young men.

I am not sure Davante can redshirt...the rules have been changed several times to prevent kids from doing multiple years of prep schools to gain advantage when they enter college. Maybe someone can find the specific rule, but I think your clock starts ticking beyond age 20 even if you don't enroll.
Davante was a high schooler in Atlanta then spent time at several other high schools & prep schools.
He transferred to Durango HS in Las Vegas in 2012-13 then Southern Cal in 2014 then West Oaks in FL for 2014-15...
...I believe there's a rule (or at least there used to be...) that if you delay entering past age 20 into college (barring military or missionary exemption) that your clock may start ticking anyway.
Davante was almost 21 when he entered Bradley.

Here, from the MVC web site is what I think is the most current rule, and although kinda confusing, it appears to state for most NCAA sports, the clock starts ticking at age 20

The bylaw reads...
"NCAA Bylaw 14.2.3.2.1 states
that student-athletes that do not
enroll in college within one year of
completing high school (or at age 20) will be
charged one year of eligibility for
each year they compete in
organized competition prior to
enrolling in college."

Disclaimer: I do not and can not speak for the NCAA, so I do not know if this rule has either been modified or if maybe any given athlete might have already sought or obtained a waiver. These links are meant only to provide some insight and I hope Davante has all the eligibility he desires, but I hope & suspect he is at least aware of the rules that govern in this area.

Do we still want Hodgson or will that spot open up too? Last I saw, he was a total bust both overseas and at prep school. Might want to cut that chord before it gets more painful for all concerned.

Scottie

IMO, Scottie would have grown and helped us much more. Best of luck to Scottie, Davante and Joel. These are good young men!!
