The Class 3A State semifinals are on TV now- Peoria Manual vs. New Lenox Lincoln-Way West. The second semifinal to follow will be Westchester St. Joseph vs. Belleville Althoff. Should be a couple great games!

Halftime score:
Peoria Manual 23
Lincoln-Way West 23

Manual's lack of a quick point guard is hurting them against the tight zone played by Lincoln-Way West. They are struggling to get good shots and their outside shots aren't falling.

Final score-
Peoria Manual 41
Lincon-Way West 45

Manual kept shooting from the perimeter, and missing (1-14 from three, the only one made was by A.J. Youngman in the first half), allowing LWW to hang close. Then some clutch baskets late by LWW while Manual went cold put them ahead. Then LWW went into a 4-corners offense, and Manual was several fouls short of sending them to the line, so they never could get a chance to pull even. A.J. Youngman made a couple nice moves to the basket, but his perimeter shooting was off and it hurt Manual. Da'Monte Williams was mysteriously invisible all game. LWW zoned the whole game, and the Manual coaches could not figure out a solution.

Congratulations to Manual on a great season. And they have a ton of talent returning next season, so they should be even better!

Unranked Lincoln-Way West has beaten Chicago Morgan Park and now Manual.
They will be big underdogs again tomorrow against the winner of Westchester St. Joseph vs. Belleville Althoff, but they have smart kids and are well coached, and they just need to win one more. Maybe they could do it?

I think Pitt's former team, Rockford Auburn, plays in the IHSA Tournament tonight at 6:30 against Chicago Curie. Auburn looks really good up to this point. :)

The other semifinal features Chicago Simeon vs. Lisle Benet at 8:15 PM

The Class 4A Girls champion was Lisle Benet, so they had quite a successful basketball season.

No reason Damonte Williams couldn't have been that guy. For some reason (yes, the zone was good) Manual played passively and refused to attack the gaps in the zone, settling for jumpers which they could not make. The slow tempo played right to LWW. Manual 1-14 (Youngman 1-9) from 3.

Another thought, I have said for years that the number of time outs needs to be reduced. This is particularly true during the state tournament with all of the media time outs. The flow of the game is almost torturous at time, so hard to get in a flow when the game is stopped every couple of minutes.

this kind of thing seems to be catching on...
- after the 4A games there was a fight outside the Civic Center between fans of opposing schools
