SIU comes back to win in OT
SIU 85 - Missouri State 84

speaking of comebacks...

if you follow our past greats and past coaches...you will want to hear this..

UC-Davis had a slow start tonight, then battled back from an 18-point deficit to beat previously 1st Place UC-Irvine 74-65
The UC-Davis Aggies take over SOLE POSSESSION of 1st place in the Big West!
Congrats- Go Aggies!! I'm telling ya, they are a fun team to watch!

one other
Kudos to Dodie Dunson - in a big time rebuilding year at SIUE Women's basketball, he & head coach Paula Buscher have them playing well...
they have won four in a row, and are now 5-4 in the OVC, in 3rd place -

UC Davis also had a full arena tonight- their top attendance mark of the year.
This year's team has no stars like the Corey Hawkins team had a couple seasons ago. And the level of talent in the Big West is a cut below the MVC. But they are a team full of role players who know their roles, run an efficient offense and defense, pass very well, and create good percentage shots.

Final score-
Mo State 84
SIU 85 - in OT

SIU starters played 199 of the 225 minutes played in the game.

Missouri State scored 5 points in the final 0.4 seconds of that overtime to make the final score 85-84...
Good thing SIU had a 6 pt lead in that final half-second.

ISU's MiKyle McIntosh did not play due to soreness in his knee....
in the MVC coaches' teleconference...Muller said McIntosh's knee is still a worry-
he said "McIntosh hurt it a week ago" (it was actually at least 9 days ago, and two games ago) and did not stay off it - he'd been playing all week and it got worse, and it was a game-time decision to hold him out of the Evansville game Sunday.
McIntosh is being sent for an MRI today ... and Coach Muller did not sound too optimistic about him playing this week against UNI.
I guess I hafta wonder (just speculating...)- if he hurt it a week ago - why didn't they have it checked out then and keep him off of it...seems a little risky to take that kind of chance with your star player -
If it is judged bad enough now to hold him out of a couple games and get an MRI, then whose decision was it to play all week on a bum knee, practice & prepare for the Evansville game and then go thru warmups yesterday knowing it was hurting him all along and it ended up keeping him out of the game?

edit - one comment suggested McIntosh's knee probs date back all the way to last fall and that he's been battling issues...
that really flared up 9 days ago when he had to be helped off the floor in the Drake game...

Then he started and played 24 minutes on the road at Indiana State last week with the injured knee and had one of his worst games,
6 pts, 2 rebs, 3 turnovers

Some of the news reports are wrong- he did not hurt the knee in the Indiana State game (LINK)
..and even the Indiana State writer noted McIntosh was troubled by his knee - from the previous game - when playing over there in Terre Haute - LINK

The story I hear from an ISU insider is that ISU does not think the knee problem is serious, but that Muller feels it would be better to rest McIntosh a couple games (yesterday vs. Evansville and Wednesday vs. UNI) that he feels they can win without him, so that he will be good to play on Saturday in their nationally televised rematch against Wichita State in Wichita. Muller believes that game is essential to their chances of winning the regular season championship and securing a potential at-large bid if needed.

UNI is very good at playing UP to their competition (and dropping tons of games to teams they shouldn't). I wouldn't be surprised to see UNI beat ISU if MM doesn't play.

The UNI game on Wednesday is in Normal, where ISU is 11-0 this season. And it wil be interesting to see if McIntosh plays or if Muller plays it like he did at Evansville. McIntosh dressed and participated in the team's pregame warmups Sunday, but then remained on the bench for the game. Muller did say after the UE game that he was "hopeful" McIntosh could play Wednesday against UNI.
But my source says he thinks Muller would rather try to rest him to hope he'll be OK for Saturday.

UC-Davis does have a guy worth paying to see...(or you can catch their games online as they are all streamed with really hi-quality streaming)
he is a cross between Eric Coleman (UNI's undersized forward from a few years ago who was an absolute monster around the basket) and Zach Andrews - an athletic freak who surprised everyone in the gym with his amazing mobility and "motor"..

Gotta read about Chima Moneke...15.6ppg/8.5rpg and he's only played 21 DI games in his entire life and just now getting used to this...
Coach Les went to the Mullen Juco exposure in St. Louis and was about the only coach to see this guy's potential - but it paid off..
now Moneke is having a BIG WEST Player of the Year season for UC-Davis - and he's just a junior, and will be back next year, too.

a couple things seem to stand out

-Muller "wouldn't say what Monday's MRI results were on McIntosh's sore right knee"
If the MRI was just fine, wouldn't he have said so? It would seem the only reason to hide something is if there's something that could in any way be "used" by the opponent to know McIntosh's weakness or limitation.
Kinda why hockey teams never reveal the specifics of injuries.

-they simply can NOT afford to play him if he's injured in any way and would be risking bigger, longer term problems (or a risk to McIntosh's future career) in a season where an NCAA bid is theirs to lose if they don't have McIntosh down the stretch and in the MVC Tourney

-"..during a news conference Tuesday afternoon before practice. (Muller said) "I don't know if he'll be able to play. He did not practice (Monday)."

so I think he won't start and probably won't play - but if Muller sees that a loss could be imminent and he judges he has to have McIntosh, then I think that option is still a possibility.

A very strange turn of events- after MiKyle McIntosh had his MRI on his sore knee Monday, Coach Dan Muller would not reveal what it showed. But he seemed to downplay the seriousness of the unjury, and said: "Not sure Wed. status for UNI....It will be up to him in a lot of ways."

But then earlier tonight, Muller told ESPN that McIntosh was found to have a torn meniscus in his knee, he had surgery today, and will be out for about 3 weeks.

Is this just a case of misjudging the seriousness of the injury? Or is it a case of Muller playing games with the media and not wanting to reveal the injury to allow UNI time to prepare to play ISU without him? If the latter were the case, then why would he spill the beans well before the game (their game is at 8:00 PM)?

at the very time Dan Muller said this Tuesday afternoon...
"Regarding MiKyle McIntosh availability for Wednesday against UNI, ISU coach
Dan Muller said: "It will be up to him in a lot of ways.""

https://twitter.com/Pg_Benson/status/826525390340575237
he surely had to have already had some idea that McIntosh was gonna have surgery the very next morning..
Those kinda things have to be scheduled and the patient would need to know in advance to get the proper preparation and stay NPO, etc...
So was Muller lying?
