The CBI is a single-elimination tournament up until the best-of-three Finals, with all games played at campus sites. After the First Round games, the Quarterfinal Round will take place on Monday, March 19, followed by the Semifinal Round on Wednesday, March 21. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-bracketed. The Finals series is a best-of-three in which one team will host two of the three games. Those games will be played on March 26, March 28, and March 30.

ESPN is again the official television home of the CBI. ESPNU will televise each game of the best-of-three Championship Series. Roy Philpott and Jason Capel will serve as the broadcast team.

How far has the CBI fallen? Here is one of their exciting matchups-

The University of New Orleans (15-16) will host the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (15-17) the first round of the College Basketball Invitational Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at Lakefront Arena.

UT Rio Grande Valley (RPI 229) finished 5th in the 8-team WAC with an 8-10 conference record. They were 13-17 against Division I teams overall.

UNO (RPI 239) finished tied for 5th in the Southland (ranked 29th out of 32 conferences in RPI). They were 12-16 against D1 schools. Their average home attendance this season was 874.

That has got to be a game nobody will want to miss.

And so much for the CBI trying to save teams on travel expenses by matching them with other teams close to them. Colgate (Hamilton, New York) will travel 3,000 miles to play at University of San Francisco on Wednesday.
Central Arkansas (Conway, Arkansas) will travel 2,300 miles to play at Seattle University.
And Mercer University (Macon, Georgia) will travel 2,000 miles to play Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ).

Here is the bracket, and it seems there were several matchups that would have been geographically better options.

Of interest to some BU fans- Colgate was eliminated at San Francisco, and former Brave Jordan Swopshire ended his collegiate career with a pretty good game. He had 16 points and 9 rebounds in Colgate's loss. His senior season stats were 12.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg, and he shot 38.1% from three.

The second round quarterfinal games start Monday, March 19-
