In the last 20 years, how many MVC teams have won an NCAA Tournament game
as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference?

Answer - Eight! Loyola is the 8th member of the MVC in the last 20 years to win an NCAA Tourney game.

Loyola
Bradley
SIU
UNI
Missouri State
Indiana State
Creighton
Wichita State

Drake played in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 but did not win a game, and Valparaiso made it to several NCAA Tournaments while in the Horizon League, and made it to the Sweet 16 in 1998.
and if you go back further than 20 years, Evansville, Drake and Illinois State have all won games, but then so have Tulsa, Louisville, Cincy, etc...

Illinois State had back to back appearances in 1996 and 1997. They lost a first round game to Iowa State in 1996, then beat Tennessee in 1997 before losing to Arizona in a 2nd round game. Prior to that, a 1990 appearance where they lost to Michigan and three consecutive appearances in 1983-84-85 where they beat Alabama and the University of Southern California. Losses were to Ohio University in 1983, DePaul in 1984 (2nd round),and the Waymon Tisdale led University of Oklahoma in 1985 (2nd round).

I remember that 82-81 win over Tennessee in the first round in March, 1998 quite well. What an exciting game. Unfortunately, they were no match for Arizona in the 2nd round losing 82-49.

Jailbirds?

Yarbrough landed in jail this year.

Deontae Hawkins was in jail for DUI, Driving on suspended license.

Then you got Rapin' Reggie Lynch.

This is all the very recent past.

Hopefully they recruit better character in the future but for now, yeah, Jailbirds.

Since you asked, don't forget...DJ Clayton, who was arrested along with Hawkins and Yarbrough,
child molester Bobby Hill, convicted drug dealer Geoffrey Allen, and convicted cocaine dealer Rick Lamb who spent over 4 years in federal prison.

And there are more. And we are not even counting the innumerable lower level arrests and citations that have plagued the ISU program for decades. How many DUI's does it take for an ISU player to miss a game? Brandon Sampay (DUI), Levi Dyer (DUI), Quintin Brewer (two DUI's!), and several others I can come up with (if you want more names), never missed a game after they were outed to have had DUIs!

Personally, and while I wished the Redbirds could have won more games, I??™m not all that disappointed in the season. With one returning starter (Fayne) they won ten games in conference, made it to the Valley tournament title game as a 3rd seed, and beat South Carolina and Mississippi in noncon. Their strength of schedule was good, and next year will have home games against San Diego State, BYU, FGCU, and Mississippi. Next year looks promising.

As an observant basketball fan, I hope BU fans are aware of the contribution of Donte Thomas. His graduation will leave a huge void that I think will not be filled for the 2018-2019 season. The consistency of his game in terms of ppg and rebounds will not be replaced with next year??™s roster. IMO, the returning players will not compensate for his loss.

That was my final post on this board. My best to the BU fans who like me, simply appreciate the game.

So you think ISU had an awesome season and Bradley will struggle without Donte, and don't care about ISU players' off court (read: criminal) records.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I don't expect players to be perfect but the Reggie Lynch situation bothers me, because I know there were rumors on campus about the guy before he transferred. What did Muller know and when? Maybe nothing, but there seems to be no appetite for the truth in Jailbird country. They lost him anyway, and another campus had to kick him off.

Rick Lamb in Federal prison!!! I did not know that!!!! I remember him. A brute of a kid

Jailbirds

Jailbirds

I am a Bradley fan through and through, have season tickets for both men and womens basketball.I never want ISU to win but I get tired of some of these self rightous Bradley fans who think we have never had our own problems with players.Jailbirds comment is way out of line in my opinion.

Yeah, I thought this post was supposed to be about congrats to Loyola. I do think that ISU red has had too many players with baggage, but so has University of Illinois. Remember when Dee Brown and 2 other players broke into a student apartment and stole items and nothing was done to them?

We do not need to put down other basketball programs. Let's just watch the FBI do their job. We should be happy with the character of our players that Wardle has recruited. CONGRATS again to LOYOLA.

FWIW, there are far worse things said about Bradley over on the ISU board, most of it fantasy and untrue. But Bradley fans wouldn't know because they don't go there to post.
But we'll try to keep it clean here. The list of offenders was simply in response to a post questioning their history. I know things can happen anywhere, but I don't think there is anything quite comparable at Bradley.

heck- they had two guys simultaneously on their roster who had active felony cases or convictions...one of them they even recruited on the very day he was in court for his felony sentencing! *

If Yarbrough doesn't like being called a jailbird he should stay out of jail. This isn't biddy basketball. If a Bradley player landed in jail this offseason you can bet ISU would notice and use it against him. Their student section jeered Reed Timmer at the free throw line with his ex GF's name. Oregon students waved 100 Grand bars when Arizona shot free throws when the FBI report leaked last month. It's part of what makes college bball fun.

Ha, LOL - they still frequently drag out & make references to relatively minor issues that Bradley had more than a DECADE ago!!

Go Loyola!

Go Loyola!

Congratulations to Loyola! I hope they win out in the NCAA Tournament. It is special time for them and their fans. They deserve to be there!!
