Anyone Want a Laugh?

Some guy over on Valleytalk posted something from the Omaha World Herald, and it is a
prediction of how the Valley will finish next year. I guess everyone is entitled to their
opinions no matter how ridiculous, but here is what the guy apparently says:

That Illinois State will surprise everyone and finish 2nd, well ahead of BU, and here is the predicted order of finish..

1. Southern Illinois
2. Illinois State
3. Wichita State
4. Missouri State
5. Creighton
6. Bradley
7. Northern Iowa
8. Drake
9. Indiana State
10. Evansville

as an accessory laugh, there's also this guy who says Nate Funk will make an NBA roster.

Predictions are made based on 'on paper' teams, coaches, and match-ups. How this guy gets ISU in 2nd returning a bottom-feeding team with a coach with career losing record is beyond me. Thanks for the laugh!

Does ISU even have a big man? Dilligard graduated and Carlwell is done. Slack is a nice player, but he can't play center. Dyer plays on the perimeter for a reason. Is there someone coming in that I can't think of?

They do have some good guards that should keep them out of Thursday night.

I can't see a coach with a losing record coming in and having a seamless transition. Is a team that struggled to get to 50 suddenly going to win games in the 70s or 80s?

That is assuming that no one leaves the program. Eldridge was reportedly not going to play for anyone else but Moser. We'll see if he was telling the truth or not.

How can ISU finish ahead of a top 30 recruiting class, including plenty of experience, WITH Jeremy Fears? We have a great shot to win the Valley next year if you ask me.

Funny you should bring that up. I was down at ISU this weekend and got a chance to talk to Eldridge and Bobby Hill while hanging out at a friend's apartment. Both players said they really like "Coach J" and are excited for next season. However, when another person in the room asked what they thought about Moser's firing, Eldridge was reluctant to say anything and seemed a bit upset by the question. As it was explained to me later by one of his friends after he left, Eldridge saw Moser as somewhat of a father figure and was pretty upset that he was fired. Eldridge also mentioned a desire to play in the Big Ten during our conversation. Even so, judging by the way he was talking, it seems as though he fully intends to play for ISU next season. I wouldn't be suprised if he transfered after that though.

Interesting. If he has dreams of playing in the Big 10, he would leave now. If he waited until after next year, he's essentially waiting 2 years, and that makes no sense if that's what his true intentions are.

I don't see whats so funny about saying that Nate Funk will play NBA ball. NAte Funk is a heck of a player.

Howellmania-- I love Nate Funk and would have been happy to have him on the Braves, but if the last couple POY's in the MVC never got much of a look from any NBA team (Darren Brooks, Paul Miller, etc.) I just can't see NF getting any.

Interesting story, but who's he kidding?
Maybe Dee Brown can be successful in the Big Ten, but he could play PG quite well and was unselfish.
If Eldridge thinks he can be successful in the BT as a 6-ft shooting guard, tell him to give Marcus Arnold a call...

3 things:

1) Eldridge is 6'3 and 200 pounds, not 6 foot. He can play just about anywhere
2) He's safe and sound in Normal. get used to it
3) Predicting ISU 2nd is way too high. Maybe 5th

O is good friends with Sherron Collins who supposedly has given O a glowing report on Coach Jankovich. He should thrive in this system.

Tatum

Tatum

I'm sure I'm no judge of talent, but Tatum really impressed me each time I saw him play.

I'd say he has the best shot to make an NBA roster and get drafted. It's a shame he's not 4" taller.

I agree. He had about as strong a senior year as he could have had. That system is not really friendly for gaudy individual stats, but he really played well especially in the last 6 weeks. I think he showed enough PG skills to get a look.

Well, I sure hope ISU doesn't finish 2nd, because that means we're probably back to a one-bid league.

Their players just lost to Indiana State in the play-in round, to a coach who knew he was already fired. For Jankovich to take that same group, minus Diligard, and finish 2nd will be one of the greatest coaching feats I've ever seen. Unless the rest of the league absolutely tanks, which means we're only getting one bid.

I think they have a good chance to avoid the play-in round, but 2nd? :-o

That's far too lofty to place the Birds I agree there. Maybe 4-5th.

However if you look at how the selection process went and the seed that Creighton received, I kinda think if they don't beat SIU and win the conference tourney, the Valley would have been a 1-bid league this season.

In regards to Dilligard, his production should easily be replaced by a JUCO he will sign with 1 of the 2 remaining scholies and by Dinma who red-shirted this past year. I'm pretty sure any ISU frat guy could replace the putrid FT shooting of Dilly.
