As much as people in the newspapers seem to trash the internet over rumors....
isn't it interesting that almost every one of these rumors
STARTS IN THE NEWSPAPER!!

so please try not to blame the internet for this one, are you listening Bill Self?

Here's just one more rumor....it comes directly from the Tulsa World this morning:
"According to press outlets, ORU coach is likely candidate.
Speculation grew Tuesday that
Oral Roberts head basketball coach Scott Sutton would be the next head coach at Wichita State."

That would be a great hire for WSU and give them a great opportunity to remain a top team in the league. I hope it comes true, part of what has made this league great is its coaches. I think Scott Sutton would be a great one in the MVC.

The Tulsa World is merely citing media reported rumors that began surfacing yesterday as press reports covering Turgeon's introduction tabbed Sutton as the leading candidate, as he was believed for the Creighton opening before Altman's return.

Todays Wichita Eagle covered yesterday's pep rally at WSU, and the AD has made it clear in the last 24 hours that there are multiple candidates and that no one particular candidate has been singled out.

He is believed, however, to have a predetermined short list. Is Scott Sutton a leading candidate? Probably, but I think there is no true source for this other than generic press agency reports that happen to be run in the papers (both online and in print).

Latest is Sutton is withdrawing from consideration...IOW...he didn't get offered

Unless WSU surprises me with their hire, I think they probably made a mistake. Sutton seemed like the perfect choice to me.

I know, but that's esentially my point.
Numerous recent comments from people seem to aim attacks at "internet reports" and "internet rumors" when in fact the majority of rumors come from the well established press & media.
So I wonder why people, even the local reporters like Luciano and Liesse, tear into the internet people as if we are the cause of the whole world's problems.

I have cited time and again that the rumors on the internet are as often true as the rumors in print.
Cite for example the reports right here on BradleyFans about Rashad Austin, Wade Knapp, David Collins, etc...that were well reported (although still just rumors) and were very accurate up to 12 months before anyone else caught on to it.

I think the internet is doing fine, I just don't understand all the criticism aimed at message boards.

As it turns out, even though this rumor was true....that Scott Sutton was being considered as the primary choice for Wichita State to replace Turgeon, in the last 24 hours, Sutton has made it quite clear he has considered the options and is staying at Oral Roberts.

The #1 target now is apparently Winthrop's head coach Gregg Marshall.
Wichita has also reportedly contacted Florida Atlantic Head Coach Rex Walters. Walters is an Omoaha native, a Kansas grad and ex-NBA player.
There was also some rumor that ex-Wichita Assistant Tad Boyle, now the head coach at Northern Colorado was also benig considered.

To me its as simple as reader beware. Until its official I take most everything with a grain of salt. TO me the press has a higher standard to live up to.

Message boards are fans having fun....like a group of people sitting in a local watering hole just shooting the breeze.

If someone takes this info TOO seriously thats on them IMO.

Great analogy.....we're just having fun....
Of course we do have some obligations to be civil (as Don Imus has taught us) but if speculating in rumors ever became prohibitied, just what army of people is going to be appointed to watch and patrol the estimated quarter million different message boards and forums that exist on the internet?
