UMKC hired former West Virginia assistant coach under John Beilein (who left WVU for Michigan) Matt Brown.

This hire is a bit of a surprise. I don't know much about Matt Brown, but there would seem to be a lot of assistants out there with as much experience and who have more recruiting connections in Kansas, Missouri, and the Midwest. Matt Brown has never coached anywhere near Kansas City, and UMKC is not exactly a school that draws talent just by its name. The new coach needs to be one heck of a recruiter to wrestle talent away from Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Wichita State, and all the other Div 1 schools in the region.
