The Tremell Murphy case at Drake has just resurfaced in the news....
As noted above, Tremell Murphy, who was a senior basketball player at Drake last September was involved in a shooting at his apartment. Another student visiting his apartment was shot in the head. He initially lied to police and claimed the shooting victim's injury was caused by a fall, and he even got other witnesses to lie as well and support the claim of a fall. Police noticed a bullet hole in the wall, and eventually Tremell Murphy admitted to have accidentally discharged a handgun that he owned in his bedroom, which went through the wall and hit the other student. He was charged with "false reports to law enforcement and discharging a firearm within city limits, two misdemeanors, according to a news release from Des Moines police".
He was suspended by the team, and missed the first 5 games of this past season. When he returned, he got injured and eventually redshirted, so he was expected to return in 2020-21 as a redshirt senior. But a lawsuit was filed this past week by the injured student who is suing Drake University, Tremell Murphy, and the property management companies (it's common to sue any party that has the "deep pockets").

Now the Des Moines Register is reporting-
After the shooting but before officers arrived at the home in the 1100 block of 27th Street, a Bulldogs basketball coach showed up. The coach told Murphy to deny any involvement in the victim's injury, according to the lawsuit.
The university denied the allegations in a statement made to the Register late Friday.
“It is not true as claimed by the plaintiff that a Drake men’s basketball coach told Mr. Murphy to deny involvement in Mr. Miller’s injuries. Additionally, the residence in which the shooting incident took place is a private residence and is not owned or otherwise affiliated with the university.”
Not a good look for the Drake basketball program.
