Indiana University Athletic Director Fred Glass announced last week that he will be retiring at the end of this current academic year-

The Indiana administration has already begun a search for his replacement.

Take the following as rumor, because I have no independent confirmation, but it comes from a connected Indiana inside source.
Reportedly, Bradley Athletic Director Dr. Chris Reynolds is interested in the job, and has been in contact with the Indiana University search group. My source tells me Dr. Reynolds has already been designated a finalist and that he is currently one of 3 finalists (there may be more added) who will be interviewed further for the position.

Dr. Reynolds has an extensive background and experience in Athletic Administration, having worked previously at Northwestern University from 2012-2015 as Deputy Athletic Director, at Indiana University from 2003-2012 as Associate Athletic Director, at the University of Notre Dame as Assistant Athletic Director in its Compliance Office, and prior to that he also spent time in the Athletic Administration at MIchigan State University and Western Michigan University. While in law school, he did an internship with the Indiana University Athletic Department, and later did an internship with the NCAA.
He also serves on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, as well as the MVC Executive Committee and he is Chair of the Athletics Administration Committee.

Of course, though Chris Reynolds is from Peoria, he is a graduate of Indiana University as an undergrad, and also received a law degree from Indiana University Law School, and a PhD from Indiana as well. His wife also has ties to Indiana, having gotten a law degree there as well, and also working at Indiana University as Assistant Dean of Students.

That would be a huge loss. Talk about a guy that just gets it, and you come out with Chris Reynolds. He never fails to take time to talk to anyone who engages him in conversation and beyond that, he is just a classy guy all around.

I hope only the best for him and at the same time, I hope that BU would do something to retain him. Hey, isn't the job of University President still open? Kidding. I doubt he'd want it.

I agree, if it happens it would be a huge loss for Bradley. Chris has done an incredible job. But nobody could blame him if he is interested in getting the IU job. Personally, I can't see how there could be anyone who would be more qualified or better for that job than Chris, and they would be crazy not to pursue him.

I am still hoping he stays at Bradley.

One more note... this article lists the Indiana University search committee members. Most of them were at IU when Chris Reynolds was their Associate Athletic Director (2003-2012) and would certainly have known him well. That could work in his favor.

The one negative I see working against Dr. Reynolds might be Bradley's lack of Division I football. Indiana is desperate to build their football program into a yearly Big Ten contender, as well as bring back their glory years and national championships in basketball. That could lead their search people to look toward someone who has had that kind of football success in their past as well as basketball success.

A couple other highly qualified names being considered for the next AD at IU-

Patrick Kraft- Current Athletic Director at Temple University. Prior to Temple, he was the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director at Loyola University Chicago, and he has previously served on the senior staff at his alma mater, Indiana University, as Senior Assistant Athletic Director.
Kraft played football at Indiana University and holds three degrees from IU- a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing/management (2000), a master’s degree in athletic administration (2005), and a doctorate in sports management (2008 ).

Steve Downing- Current Athletic Director at Marian University (NAIA) in Indianapolis. He was a star basketball player at IU from 1970-73 under Bobby Knight, and was a 1st round NBA pick and played in the NBA, winning a championship in 1974 with the Boston Celtics. He previously spent 10 years as senior associate director of athletics at Texas Tech University, and prior to that spent 22 years as associate director of athletics at Indiana University.

And the current Deputy Athletic Director at IU under the retiring Fred Glass is Scott Dolson. Though it would seem he would get some consideration, I have not heard that he is in the final group being considered-

I would hate to see him leave but obviously he will go if he gets the offer-bigger job, more pay and it is his alma mater where he has many connections. If it happens the timing will be interesting-we are in the midst of a search for a new Bradley president and that individual will certainly want involvement in choosing an AD. It always amazes me that a Fortune 500 company can replace a CEO in 48 hours but a University President often takes a year.
