Kind of odd. IU spent a fortune hiring a high-powered search firm, received interest from lots of quality candidates, went through interviews, background searches, checked references, and ended up taking twice as long to run their search, interview candidates and make a choice than they announced initially. And in the end, they pick their own long-time deputy director and chief operating officer of intercollegiate athletics Scott Dolson, who has been their second in command at IU since 2009. He has been working in various capacities at IU since 1989.

I had heard that Chris Reynolds was not in contention at the end, and had given assurance to the Board of Trustees that he was not going anywhere.
 
Well that's the first good news I've had since they ruined our NCAA dreams! I'm sorry CR didn't get an opportunity he was hoping for, but I sure am glad that he's sticking around BU for a while longer. Guy is 100% class.

I think a lot of public schools are mandated to go thru the motions of looking for a replacement for a position but actually they know all along who is going to get it. Years ago I interviewed for a position at Illinois State and made it to the final 3. They ended up giving it to the guy in house who I am sure they zeroed in from the start. That was ok. I knew him and he was a good guy who worked hard for years wanting that position. If anyone deserved that job it was him.
