All Time Favorites

Someone ask me today who my favorite all time athletes were. Thought it was an interesting question, so I thought i’d share it with the board. My favorites for the top 4 sports, IMO, are as follows. For baseball I have 2. Have to have Chico Carrasquel for one, which is obvious, and my favorite all time player is Dick Allen. That surprises most people. Football it’s Paul Hornung and basketball it’s Hersey Hawkins. Great person besides a great player. Golf, it’s Vijay Singh, because he rarely misses playing in a tournament. If he’s not playing on the PGA tour he can usually be found playing on the Senior tour.
 
It's hard for me to pick just a few, since I am almost as old as you Chico, and have followed sports long enough to have many favorite athletes.
But I trimmed my list to just a few-
In baseball- Luis Aparicio, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, and Frank Thomas
Basketball- Michael Jordan, of course
Football- Walter Payton
Hockey- Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Jeremy Roenick, Ed Belfour, and Patrick Kane
 
Nice topic, Chico and something sports related to discuss in this era of boredom we're living in! Here's my answers today. I'm sure if you asked in 3 months, the list would be different, though!

Baseball - Jay Johnstone, Rick Sutcliffe, Kerry Wood, Rizzo
Basketball - Hersey Hawkins, Chris Roberts, Will Perdue
Football - Walter Payton, Wilbur Marshall, Peanut Tillman
Hockey - Jeremy Roenick, Ed Belfour, Dennis Savard, Chris Chelios
Soccer - JUST KIDDING!
 
Favorite hockey player would be Rocky Graziano. Oh wait, he was a boxer when I was a kid. Oh well, same thing, boxing and hockey.
 
Great question, as sports has meant a lot to me over my lifetime, too. I will spread mine out over the years.

Baseball - Mickey Mantle, Billy Williams, Ryne Sandberg, Javy Baez
Basketball - Chet Walker, Hersey Hawkins, Michael Jordan, Shawn Livingston
Football - Gale Sayers, Walter Payton, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning
Hockey - Bobby Hull, Dennis Savard, Chris Chelios, Patrick Kane
 
Mine were easy for me but then I'M old. LOL
Basketball - Magic Man and Hawkins and lately DB and almost any BU player the last 4 years
Baseball-Al Kaline, Bob Gibson, Yadi or Albert Pujols
Football-Barry Sanders
Hockey-"The Great One" Gordie Howe
 
Great topic!! For me being a lifelong Chicago sports fan:
Football: Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus and Walter Payton.
Basketball: Michael Jordan.
Baseball: loved the White Sox, so Gary Peters and Frank Thomas with Paul Konerko up there also.
Hockey: Bobby Hull!!
 
Feel kind of stupid because I started this subject and should have automatically included Jim Thome. Besides being a local guy, his dad was one of my better friends.
