Coach Wardle interview

Coach Wardle will be on WAZU-FM radio tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 7:30 am as a guest on the Roger and Friends radio talk show.
WAZU is at 90.7 FM, or can be heard on the internet at http://streema.com/radios/play/90.7_WAZU .
The host is long-time Peoria radio personality Roger Monroe, and there will be a couple other co-hosts.

For those who missed the interview, here are a few things he discussed-
Coach Wardle did not reveal any new information about the non-conference schedule, though he did say it is possible the start of the season might be pushed back to a later date than initially planned. The NCAA is expected to announce something in the next few days regarding the winter sports seasons (including basketball). That uncertainty is one reason for the delay in releasing the schedule.
Coach Wardle was asked where he thinks Bradley will be picked in the 2020-21 preseason polls. I was surprised to hear him say probably 5th or 6th. But he relished that because he likes his team to have chips on their shoulders. He specifically mentioned Loyola, UNI, and Indiana State who all return the bulk of their talent from last year as probable to be favored ahead of Bradley.
He said the incoming freshmen, Darius Hannah, Connor Linke, and Jayson Kent, have been working out over the summer and have put on weight and muscle. and he complimented their skills and believes they will form a core that will help keep Bradley successful into the next 4 years. The other incoming freshman, Thomas Hall, just got on campus a couple weeks ago.
And he said they are primarily looking at a big wing or forward, someone with a skill set similar to Elijah Childs, with the one available scholarship. But he they will probably not look to sign anyone until next spring. He said they are looking at high school kinds, but mentioned it could be a juco or transfer

5th or 6th.... ha ha ha. Wardle is trying to pull the committee down off 1 or 2 to at least 3 or 4 so the chip will be hanging off the shoulder.

He knows we play better with our back against a wall. If we are picked 5th or 6th I’ll eat this iphone.

No doubt about it. Nobody worth their salt that follows MVC basketball is picking BU that low this time around. We have separated ourselves from the pack, along with Loyola and NIU, and I suspect those will fill the bulk of the top 3 slots for quite a while barring any big changes (head coaches).

I'm no doubt biased, but it's hard not to be with the continued improvement under Wardle. Certainly we're not the only ones that are noticing? Gotta like BW's humility though, even though we all know that's not where he thinks they'll finish!

There is supposed to be an archived recording, so I will try to find out if we can post that.

The entire 3-hour show was recorded, but I have asked for just a clip of the 7:30-8:00 segment featuring Coach Wardle. It will probably take a day or two for the WAZU station engineer to create that, and I will post the link to the website.

Besides comments on the team, I found the information on the Peoria Civic Center interesting. I hadn't heard this before.

Here is an article-
https://week.com/2020/08/31/civic-center-management-seeking-3-8-million-in-government-assistance/

Peoria Civic Center General Manager Rik Edgar says if they don't receive local or federal funding within 60 days, the River City venue will have to close down for good.

From Edgar's perspective, things can’t get much worse....
The Civic Center is seeking $3.8 million dollars either from the city council or the federal government. That money will enable them to remain open another year.... it's just not sustainable so with us not being able to open, we're going to need an infusion of cash or we're going out of business," said Edgar.
