Bob Gibson is known primarily as one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history and for his heroics as a Hall of Fame pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. He passed away today at the age of 84-

However, Gibson was also a tremendous basketball and baseball player at Creighton (1953-57), and was inducted into the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame in 2005 as an "Institutional Great". Creighton was a member of the MVC from 1928-1948 and 1976-2013, but not for the years when Gibson played there.-

He also spent a year playing with the Harlem Globetrotters (1957-58 ) before signing to play with the St. Louis Cardinals.

What a great competitor! Saw him pitch many times at the old Busch. The Cardinals organization has lost 2 greats players in the last few weeks..Lou and now Gibson.
