FYI - The veteran being honored at tonight's game is my brother, Dick Wienke. Vietnam infantry vet with a purple heart who got blown up by a land mine when the guy on point during recon stepped on it and he was right behind him. He has a scar from his chest to his belly button and a matching one on his back and as the story goes was walking around holding his intestines crying for mom when the medic got to him. Nothing short of a miracle that he's alive today and I know it's because my mom prayed continuously while he was over there.
Dick loves this country and fought in a war that a lot of people didn't agree with and like a lot of Vietnam vets experienced some of the anger that was misplaced on to the soldiers who were drafted to go over there. Glad to see that all vets, and particularly the ones that weren't appreciated at the time are being appreciated and honored now. Really love that they added this at BU (this says a lot of Chris Reynolds) and enjoy it even more now that they are going to honor my bro. I love him and know this will mean a lot to him as he's a HUGE BU fan (more than me) and I think his entire wardrobe consists of a Vietnam hat and about 100 BU sweatshirts. Hope as many of you can make it tonight to see him, and then watch a big win against Drake to top it all off.
Tommy, I'm sure all of us on here want to thank your brother for his service to our country.
Go BU
Well I can't watch the game tonight because it is on ESPN3, I subscribe to ESPN Plus but it won't show the game. No TV in my office, just computer. Very frustrating!
Great win.
Seemed like some bogus calls made tonight and then other times should have had some real calls made.
Still played a great "team" game.
This seems to be a very unselfish team.
I have not been able to find a replay of the Bradley Drake game anywhere. Does anyone know where I can watch the game again
Hey BF124, up on my Youtube channel now, buddy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_5oDo86tZk
And thanks again for the kind words about my bro, guys. That means a lot to me. And Jimmy, you are correct, that is the first time they've given a ball to a vet and it was arranged by Phyllis Piraino and she was just really great. She said she wanted to do something special knowing that he was such a big BU fan and considering his story. He told me it was one of the best days of his life and 2nd best sports memory right behind seeing BU win the MVC tournament in St. Louis in 2020.
We were able to come down for both the Loyola and Drake games. Both were great wins. But better than those wins, was to see them honor Tommy's brother. I'll never forget that. Tommy, tell your brother I served in the Navy from 69-73 and I salute him for his service. Also was 14 assists the most we've had in a Valley game this season.
elmerb, thanks so much for your thoughtful message and your service as well, my friend! I’ve read all the messages to my bro and I’ll definitely read yours to him next time we talk! I hope we can meet at a game one of these days!We were able to come down for both the Loyola and Drake games. Both were great wins. But better than those wins, was to see them honor Tommy's brother.
