Rienk on crutches

This isn't what I wanted to see but at least Mast should be back for most of season.

Time for Hannah and Linke to step up, a lot of minutes are opened up now.

Against smaller teams you might see it the other way around. Jashon 5 Malevy 4... Malevy does not look like a post player to me despite his obvious height. But what do I know?

Ya, what do any of us know! Malevy occasionally played on the low block last year in rotation and Jashon who's listed at 6'6" is actually about 6'4" so that's a consideration. Then again I'm old enough to remember Greg Smith playing post for Coach Stowell at allegedly 6'5" so who knows?

I too was in the stands watching Smith kind of windmill his arms every time he came into the game. It was said he was the only D1 center at the time, who could not dunk the ball.

I also remember him among the best free throw shooters in the Valley. I wonder where he ranks on BUs all time free throw list?

Good memory. Here are the all-time career free throw percentage leaders in Bradley history.

Greg Smith ranks 9th with a career 80.1%. Pretty good for a big man. All the others in the top 10 are guards. The #1 career FT% player, Roger Phegley, was listed on the BU roster sometimes as a forward, and other times as a guard. His game was more like a shooting guard. And in the NBA, he was always listed as a guard.
Btw, Roger was the 1977 MVC Player of the Year as a junior, amazing considering he beat out Larry Bird, who lead the MVC in scoring (32.8 ppg), and finished 3rd nationally. Bird was named an All-American by UPI and NABC in 1977, Phegley.was not.

It's tough to see Rienk Mast (1st team), Roman Penn (1st team), and Austin Phyfe (3rd team), 3 Preseason All-MVC players who will miss at least a significant portion of the upcoming season due to injuries/illness.

Article about key MVC injuries to Roman Penn of Drake, Austin Phyfe of UNI, and Rienk Mast of Bradley.
Plus news that the preseason Player of the Year, Tucker DeVries, is now in a walking boot.
DeVries missed Drake's exhibition game Thursday, along with D.J. Wilkins, Roman Penn, Garrett Sturtz, and Issa Samake.
