Defending national champion Kansas has imposed a 4-game suspension on head coach Bill Self and top assistant Kurtis Townsend. This self-imposed suspension is being done by Kansas in hopes that it will satisfy the NCAA which is nearing the end of its investigation into pay-for-play recruiting violations and bribery and corruption charges that arose back in 2017 with an FBI investigation.

"We are hopeful these difficult self-imposed sanctions will assist in bringing the case to a conclusion," Kansas athletic director Travis Goff said in a statement.

How about vacate the 2018 Final Four and 2022 Championship and a postseason ban?

That sounds a lot more difficult. Oklahoma State got a postseason ban for way less than the alleged actions by Kansas.

However I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA says this is enough. I doubt they would ever do anything serious to upset a blue blood.

Yes - this "Self-imposed" suspension is weak... Definitely should include postseason ban! hmmmm... Except Bradley is undefeated vs. Kansas basketball :!:

The NCAA proves they aren't serious about the big schools cheating. They finally issued punishment to University of Louisville in the pay-for-play bribery scandal that emerged with the FBI investigation in 2017 involving illegal payments channeled to a recruit (Brian Bowen), and the penalty was a slap on the wrist. Louisville is fined a token $5,000, and they are given 2-years probation.

There was no loss of scholarships, no post-season ban, and no penalties for any coaches. Recall that this current case of NCAA violations occurred while they were still on probation from the 2015 stripper scandal. What a joke.

You are right! It is a joke. No wonder coaches like Bill Self cheat. Nothing ever happens to them, They are not held accountable. The NCAA needs to be held accountable but who is going to do that. Congress? They are worse. This kind of stuff makes my blood boil.

Barely noticed in the college basketball world, is a story about one of the players involved in the adidas bribery scandal
opening up and alleging that all the Kansas coaches, including Bill Self were fully aware & involved and neck deep in the
scheme. No real surprise, tho, nobody at NCAA seems to want to even hear about this.

The Kansas coaching staff was fully aware of what was going on- https://www.si.com/college/2023/04/...y-preston-claims-coaches-knew-adidas-payments

Yeah, the 4 game coaching suspension of Self at the beginning of the season is showing how tough the NCAA is really in their enforcement of violations

Nothing will change until there are significant monetary fines against the head coaches that are enforced even when they leave colleges and go to the pros. I am not going to live long enough to ever see that happen.

The 6-year NCAA investigation into violations by Kansas and Bill Self has finally concluded with barely a slap on the wrist, and no meaningful punishment.
Kansas gets a 3-year probation and has to vacate 15 wins from the program record. Bill Self's initial Level I violation was downgraded to a Level III violation, and he was given NO additional penalties. He served a self-imposed 4-game suspension at the start of last season. What a joke.

Kansas head coach Bill Self just held a press conference and said he and the Kansas program will accept the NCAA ruling today. Why not, the penalties were negligible, and Bill Self, despite the findings of multiple recruiting violations and bribery charges, gets no further sanctions.

A couple highly rated 2024 recruits were waiting for this ruling to be finalized before committing, and with no additional penalties coming, expect to see defending NCAA Champion Kansas land some more top talent for 2024.

.... 4-star recruit Rakease Passmore just gave a verbal commitment tonight to Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks after hearing the NCAA report-

Kansas already has verbal commitments from the top rated big man in the 2024 class, Flory Bidunga, and one of the top point guards in the 2024 class, 4-star point guard Labaron Philon.
