9 MVC games Saturday, Dec. 10

Should be interesting to see how ISU Red does against SIUE.

ISU's game today against SIUE is a throwback game played in the old Horton Field House, where they played from 1963 to 1988 prior to the opening of Redbird Arena (now called CEFCU Arena). And they have brought back their all-time greatest player Doug Collins, who will be in attendance for the game.

The game is scheduled to be on ESPN3, which is the free streaming side of ESPN-

It is also on the Marquee Network (the Cubs cable network) if you have that channel.

I saw Doug Collins on a broadcast. He walks with a cane

More embarrassment for the MVC...
The top MVC team, Drake is playing at Richmond (3-5). Drake was a 2.5 point favorite. Richmond scored the first 17 points to jump to a 17-0 early lead. Now under 12 minutes of the first half, Richmond leads 24-2! Drake has still not made a basket (2 points were on FTs).

Drake loses to a mediocre Richmond team by 30 points.

ISU down early at home to SIUE-

The MVC is looking more like the SWAC today.

The beatdown for the MVC continues...
Illinois State and UIC managed close wins-
ILSU 77 SIUE 71- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401493755
UNI 62 Western Michigan 56- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401493752

But Murray State loses 69-58 to a 4-6 Bellarmine team- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401485335
And Belmont loses at home 85-75 in OT to Middle Tennessee- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401489001

Games at 7 pm-
Purdue Fort Wayne at Missouri State
Alcorn State at SIU

SIU tied 30-30 at half.

Southern Illinois was a 14.5 point favorite, but the game stayed close throughout.
SIU pulled ahead late and held on to beat Alcorn State 74-68-

And Missouri State laid another egg, losing at home to Purdue Fort Wayne 65-61-

MSU was a 5.5 point favorite, but like every other MVC team today, they failed to cover the spread.
They shot 7-41 from three (17%). 41 of their 63 shot attempts were from three, despite being one of the worst three point shooting teams in the MVC.

So the MVC goes a disappointing 3-6 today.

I live in Nashville and went to the Belmont vs MTSU game on Saturday. Belmont looks like a one man team. Sheppard is really good, and likely a first or second team all conference guy, but other than a couple of guys who occasionally make threes they really don't have much. Our frontcourt is really going to be a problem for them. They don't have anyone that can match up with Mast or Leons. Can't wait to see the Braves in person here on the 28th. I've been hoping for years that Belmont would join the Valley so I could see Bradley play in town.

I almost went to the game...wish I had (I live in Pleasant View) I'll definitely be there the 28th!

It was actually a really fun game. MTSU went up three with 2.9 seconds to go and the people next to us left. Sheppard then nailed a three from about 25 feet to tie it at the horn. MTSU was just too athletic for them in overtime.

I was watching on ESPN+. I wondered why the MTSU coach didn't call for his players to foul and give Belmont 2 free throws, to prevent the game-tying three.
Yes, I know there are arguments for both sides of this topic. But Sheppard was something like 7-8 from three at that point.

He was telling them to foul. We were about 10 rows directly behind their bench and he was giving them the sign to foul. Not sure why they didn't because as you say Sheppard was on fire from three. Interestingly, he was only 5-15 from the free throw line.
