2024 Transfer Portal news

I just saw Great Osobor is in the portal. I truly enjoyed watching him play, Cat needs to pony up NIL for him to advertise their machines to get him on the Hilltop.

On another note, probably going east, but Sincere Harris just entered the portal. He could easily be a DPoy candidate in the Valley. Good to great athleticism.

Here is Jeff Goodman's updated Top 100 portal players - https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/1779860339988844674

Note Tucker DeVries at #5, who has already signed scholarship papers to attend West Virginia. And Robbie Avila is #6.
But also note Utah State's Great Osobor at #4. He is getting interest and offers from some of the top programs in the country, and will no doubt be getting NIL offers in that $250,000 and higher range.
Full list, but you need to be an ESPN+ subscriber to read - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...e-basketball-transfer-rankings-2024-25-season
Other MVC players in the portal- # 6 Robbie Avila, # 41 Cade Tyson, # 45 Ryan Conwell, # 51 Malik Dia, # 55 Ja'Kobi Gillespie, # 90 Jayson Kent.
Also among the "Next in Line" (in order)- Connor Hickman, Alston Mason, Isaiah Swope, Atin Wright, Kevin Overton, Ben Humrichous.

As noted above, Illinois guard Sencire Harris, who just entered the portal, was a 4-star recruit out of St. Vincent-St. Mary HS in Akron in 2022. He didn't get much playing time his freshman season (2022-23) and only shot 31.7% from three. He redshirted this past season. I think he will also get high-major offers, but I agree, he would be a real impact player at the mid-major level if he is looking for more playing time.

I am seeing that there are Texas fans who believe these Indiana State transfers are going to help lead them to a National Championship - https://twitter.com/BevoBrigade/status/1779706265616392635

Excuse me, but is that the same Indiana State that couldn't even get into the NCAA Tournament?

I am not trying to denigrate guys like Julian Larry and Jayson Kent, they are very good mid-major players. But they might not even be starters for a good Big 12 team like Texas.

I also am wondering about the hype. They couldn't beat Michigan State, a 14 loss team this year, nor Alabama, which resulted in them missing the NCAA tournament. In addition they fell to an 11? loss Seton Hall in the finals of the NIT. I agree they are good players, but S16 or better players? Maybe in a long shot situation. Idk. But I think the idea is putting these players around other really strong players and have the transfers come off the bench some, or maybe a couple as starters, and the overall roster will be really strong. Time will tell on this type of roster construction at the power schools.

Missouri State lands another portal transfer- Vincent Brady II, a 6'4" sophomore shooting guard from IUPUI (6-26, 2-18 in the Horizon League). He is from Indianapolis and was a starter for IUPUI both his freshman and sophomore seasons. He averaged 10.9 ppg as a freshman and this past season as a sophomore, he averaged 9.1 ppg. He also averaged 3.4 rpg, and 1.7 apg, and he shot 38.6% overall and 21.5% from three, despite taking a lot of threes (28-130).

Drake is now D2U. I'll be interested to see how these three transfers do in the MVC. Their Twitter fans are ecstatic but I'm not sure these are the signings I would be expecting.

Yeah I'm ok with maybe 1 D2 transfer coming in that the coach thinks is good enough to play, but 3? Yeah I wouldn't be excited.

I have no idea what kind of players these three are. However, I wonder if this is as much as anything- his way of putting the infrastructure in place to have the culture he wants and the system he wants to run. That is hard to do with a totally new entire set of players coming from all over the place. I may be way off but just a hunch.

That is basically what Josh Shertz did at Ind St and look how that worked out.I think he brought one of his players from his last place. It can work out and you might as well get use to not knowing who is on your team from one year to the next

Verbalcommits.com now shows 1716 players in their listing of the D1 Transfer Portal. - https://verbalcommits.com/transfers
This number is not the official NCAA Transfer Portal total, and there are likely more names that they don't have. But their list from last year (2023) ended with 1717 players in the Portal, so this year will easily exceed last year's record number of transfers.
