At Wichita State, apparently one of their recruits, 7-footer Ehimen Orupke's status is still in limbo. He is not cleared for entry into the US and may not have been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. In addition, a second recruit, 6-8 Ejike Hart, failed to qualify.

I will be very surprised if Dinma Odiakosa makes a "Major contribution".
In this entire column, not one single word about any player who is an expected starter?

At Evansville, one of their expected starters is out two months with a chipped bone in his patella, Shy Ely.

At SIU, forward Jamaal Foster is no longer on the team.
This has been rumored for over 3 months, as SIU needed a scholarship for someone else, possibly Justin Bocot.

Bradley? The Braves have talent back in Daniel Ruffin and Jeremy Crouch, among others. But it will be interesting to see whether the frenetic guard-heavy system Bradley used last season will return, and if so, whether it will be as effective. Don??™t overlook the retirement of assistant coach Chuck Buescher, who pulled a lot of X and O strings there. Factor in massive roster turnover ??” seven new players ??” and it??™s hard to make a solid runner-up case for Bradley, who should be in the top half.

The article basically says "I dont know".

One of the Pantagraph/ISUwriters has viewed some early season scrimmages....

I didn't quite know what heading to put this under....but as much criticism as some of the Redbird fans give to the Pantagraph....it seems they have done pretty well in regards to some recent statewide awards.
The Pantagraph was named to 3rd Place in the Illinois Associated Press Editors Association's awards for the Best "Large-Newspaper"/General Excellence. The Sun times was 1st, and the Rockford Register was 2nd.
In the category of best newspaper web sites, the Pantagraph won 2nd place with the Chicago Trib getting 1st place.

The Pantagraph also won several other smaller awards including a 2nd best for Editorial Page, and a 3rd for Sports Columnist (Randy Kindred).

I guess the thing that impresses me the most is the complete absence of any mention of another certain local newspaper.

In fact the people at the Pantagraph make the bold statement (and possibly deservedly so)
"Our staff has worked extremely hard in the past year to continue producing a quality newspaper, but also make www.pantagraph.com the No. 1 place for breaking news and other information in Central Illinois."

The Illinois Press Assoc.'s WORSTY Award goes to the University of Illinois!
