One MVC game Monday, Dec. 23

The Murray State-Charlotte game in the Diamond Head Classic didn't tip off until about midnight last night (8 pm Hawaii time), so I didn't watch any of it, but it was a close game. Murray State lost to Charlotte in double-overtime 94-90 - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401729810/murray-st-charlotte

A bad loss for Murray State, and it was their 4th loss in a row. Charlotte came into the game with an NET ranking of 263. Murray State was picked 3rd in the MVC preseason poll, and even had a vote for 1st place. But their record is now 6-6 and their NET dropped from 140 to 154. They will play Loyola on Wednesday morning in the 7th-8th place game in Honolulu.

I happened to wake up at 2am and saw the ending of this game.
Charlotte (and Murray State also) drove the ball over and over, and it really got both teams in foul trouble.
72 total FT attempts!! 52 total fouls. All the Racers were in foul trouble.
Murray State's hesitancy to go hard for the rebounds, perhaps because of their foul trouble, led to two really costly offensive
rebounds by Charlotte that won the game for them in double OT

btw- Loyola lost again- to Charleston...
Loyola now plays on Christmas Day against Murray State to decide 7-8th place in the Diamond Head Classic
The loser goes home from Hawaii 0-3...

GO Racers!!

(interesting, that Valpo transfer to Loyola, Sheldon Edwards has spent the better part of the last 2 1/2 years riding the pines,
averaging barely 12-14 minutes per game at Loyola. I could never understand why Coach Valentine used him so little.
But suddenly he gets the chance to play more with Loyola's shallow and non-productive bench and guess what???
He is their best player! He leads their team in scoring, he's their best 3-pt shooter and hits almost 80% on FTs.
Sometimes necessity is the best coach of all!)
