WEEK no longer Televising BU Games

I don't think so. I think the on-line streaming uses cameras independently from WEEK. I think the cameras are for the jumbotron or whatever.

If you'll notice, none of the WEEK graphics are used for the on-line streams plus of course there's Dave Snell instead of Lee Hall.

I'd like to see WTVP (47) setup one of their HDTV cameras at Carver. It can't be impossible to get a fibre feed from CC to their downtown studio. (WTVP can produce taped HDTV, I'm not sure if they can produce live HDTV, though)

The camera should be set at the normal court location with zoom set to view half the court, just pan back and forth with the action, and setup mics for Dolby 5.1 surround. No closeups, No announcers, just the game, as if you were there.

HDNet has done that single camera, no announcer production on some periods of hockey games to the great enjoyment of their viewers...

Has anyone heard anything with regards to a local coverage package yet for the coming year? We need someone to step up so I can go home and watch the game immediately after attending it. I know it's rediculous to go home and watch a game on tape that you just attended but I do, and without some local coverage of our home games I will not be able to do so. :(

Don't worry, even more games will be televised this year then in years past.

If anything, Caterpillar would sponsor the costs to have BU Basketball on TV. What better way to get more advertising on TV. BU basketball is super popular on TV, I know when i'm at work at Bradley Central Comm., I get tons of calls on gameday wondering if so and so game will be on TV. Many of them are old timers that have no internet and don't want to get out at night time to see a game.

Great idea, Caterpillar could take even more of their retirees health care benefits away to help finance the deal.

Why fiber? Satellite feeds are used for live broadcasts no?

WTVP's downtown digital studio is like 2 blocks from the PCC. Seems redundently expensive to buy or rent an HDTV production truck and satellite time for that meager distance. (I believe 90%+ of all national network HDTV broadcast trucks are rented)

I was just throwing out a "cheap" way of broadcasting a really, really high quality viewing experience.
I know WTVP owns HDTV cameras and HDTV mastering equipment (Thery were, and may still be the first and only downstate HDTV production studio). I've never heard if they have live remote HDTV broadcasting equipment, or if their HDTV cameras only record to "tape"

You're right Murph. Don't give the Big Yellow Phony any more reasons to screw the retired, especially the salaried guys.

Word of advice to everyone: DON'T buy an HD TV til just around 2010. They just cost way too dang much. And Uncle Sam ain't gonna keep common folks down... HD TV's will be affordable for EVERY household in 2010 and it will be made so by law... gair-un-teed.

Huh?

Yes, there will be an over-the air analog TV cutoff. But if you are getting locals via cable or sat, you will not be affected.
While, yes, the government will have to provide some digital tuners, so the few people with old analog TV's, and even many newer HD monitors, can tune and display content from the newer digital over-the air channels. The government will never have to provide HDTV's to anyone. I believe RCA is setting up to sell those tuner boxes (that convert the digital channel into a Channel3/4 output like VCR's) for about $50 and the government will give a ~$40 rebate per household that purchases one.

Every new technology is expensive. Right now, HDTV is a lot more affordable than 5 years ago. Waiting for the newest technology to become affordable would kinda mean you would not be posting here.

So that's how it will work? I really didn't know. I just got roped into the big scare that everyone's gonna need a new HD tv come 2010. And I kept thinking there is no way Uncle Sam is gonna let low-income families left outta the loop and unable to get their daily soaps and nightly reality shows.

But so there it is... the government is gonna give a $40 rebate to every household that buys the tuner box/converters. So RCA still gets their $50; the government doles out $40; and a household has to give up an equivalent of a night at McD's. Hahaha....

Thanks for the info Ph.

Also... Today HDTVs don't cost much more than top-flight SDTVs did a few years ago. If you want the 94" plasma of doom, maybe yes... but I got a very good deal on a 42" HD tube TV 2 or 3 years ago, and my brother just got a great deal on a 50" plasma a few weeks ago.

FWIW On a quick search, this website seems to state what I previously read from seemingly accurate sources about the $40 rebate, but thinks converter box may be $60 (Says to apply early for rebate, due to limited funds, and husband and wife may both get rebates for $80 total):
