Almar Atlason enters the portal

Sad to hear but not surprised:-o....I'm sure he wasn't happy with his playing time or having to play center which never worked out.
I really hope Meta stays....

Yes sad to see him wanting to leave. Hate to say he was more a liability than an asset. Wish him nothing but the best going forward. The saying goes addition by subtraction. A spot for Wardle and staff to fill with hopefully one that can contribute.

This one’s on Wardle. Played him out of position because he didn’t have enough big guys down low. I don’t blame him for transferring.

Also played down low because he couldn't make shots anyway. Now he has the potential to turn that around so we'll see.

He could not guard a position 3 player so on defense he was a liability. I wish him good luck but we need 6-8 players that can rebound and finish layups. It just turned out to be a bad fit for him and Bradley.

I am curious if we get anyone as skilled from the portal-
Almar wasn't always consisent but he won games for us...
If he doesn't hit 3 treys against San Francisco, we don't win... same with Wright State
From Jan 25 (the ISU game) thru the end of the season, he hit 18 of 35 3-pointers - 51.4%!! - he was literally our best option from the arc. And only 1 TO/gm- when quite often turnovers really hurt us.
(the three games we lost down the stretch (ISU, Drake, Chattanooga) those three teams scored 51 points off our turnovers!!!!)

Maybe he shoulda played more & taken more shots? Maybe taking zero shots in two of the 3 MVC Tourney games, including vs Drake was a factor?

I agree. He did not take many shots. He needed more shots. Every one was getting on him because he only made 1of 3 shots. If he had shot 15times and made 7 they would have been singing a different tune. However his defense needed work

I hope he finds a place that makes him happy. The coach did nothing wrong as far as playing him inside on defense because he was not mobile enough to defend a guard on the outside. Sure when he was making 3 point shots he was valuable but he gave up more points then he made and for a 6-8 player he did not rebound period. He was what I would call a tweener where he does not have an actual position on the floor, not strong enough to be a forward or center and not quick enough to be a guard. I do think if he had stayed at Bradley in the summer they might have been able to work with him on his strength and agility instead of going back home and playing on his national team .

It just seems to me that Almar turned out to be a bad fit for Wardles system. When I saw him playing, he looked scared to take a shot, and unsure of himself. Was that a bad fit overall, a misuse of his talents, was he not ready for the difference between NCAA ball and international ball, something else? I don't know, but I do know that it seemed that he just wasn't working out. He really reminded me of Ville, someone with talent who just didn't work on this team. So, thanks for what you did, sad that it didn't work out, good luck to you in the future. He does seem like a player with good character, and hopefully that will take him far in life.

I noticed today that yet another KEY player at Kansas is in the portal....
Maybe this is GOOD, that when the big wigs start losing all their talent to the portal, instead of mainly the mid-majors.
THEN you know the NCAA will see this as a serious problem and start making changes!

Suddenly the media & pundits are seeing that this whole portal thing is a mess and are starting to propose rule changes,
such as limiting portal transfers to just two times per player, or requiring the team receiving the portal transfer to compensate
the team's NIL that lost the player or making the transfer kid sit out a certain number of games.
But whatever change they make is sure to favor only the Power Conferences.

Look at what happened with Maryland since they got bounced from the tournament after a S16 run! They have been brutalized by the portal, but granted they did also lose their coach. However, seemingly no one is truly immune from the new rules. There is a reason why legendary coaches like Saban have retired in the past couple of years.

Dead on, buddy. They got exactly what they wanted in hopes of destroying mid-majors and giving the PC's all the advantages, but they seem to have missed the fact that they've created a mess for their own with a system where PC's are constantly poaching each other. Not working out quite the way they planned I imagine, and I'm glad to see them whining about losing their star players because of the new rules. Didn't seem to bother them when they were poaching the mid-majors for all of our stars, but now that it's affecting them, all of a sudden, something needs to change. It's a beautiful thing to behold!

Currently, BW seems to be doing as good if not better of maintaining continuity with his roster than just about anyone, and that can only help us in the future. GO BU! DEATH TO PC's (not literal death, just figurative)!
