New Iowa head coach Ben McCollum is stealing MVC recruits

Northern Iowa recruit Trevin Jirak has already signed his Letter of Intent to UNI but now is backing out and
going to Iowa to play for McCollum

He had a great senior season and was named Mr. Basketball as the best high school player in Iowa.
I'm thinking Ben Jacobson is not real happy. I guess McCollum doesn't mind if every fan in the MVC suddenly hates him and wants to see Iowa flop.

Yeah I'm going to enjoy Iowa getting lit up in the BIG10 next year. They won't have enough talent to compete even if they are stealing every good player from the MVC.

But yeah, I'm sure McCollum could care less, its basically two different leagues at this point. He is getting his bag $$$$, if he fails at Iowa after 3-4 years he could retire if he wants, or just move to some other mid major far from the state of Iowa.

That is exactly how I read that story too. It seems there should be rules against such things.

Anyone heard what McCollum’s contract is worth?

Ok. Yes, Ok.
Brother McCollum.
Can recruit and recruit quickly. I understand that.
But. Excepting Stiritz. Everyone he is recruiting is 2-4 inches too short..
For the Big10 battles.

There is a reason that Coach Wardle recruits a lengthy front line..
It's the defense matchups and rotations..
Once the Big10 scouts the frontcourt bumps and handsyness
And the undersized frontcourt.

I believe it will be a long Iowa Year...

If I was Ben Jacobson, I would text McCollum if he hasn't already, and let him know what he did was disgraceful and won't be forgotten! Then I'd take that Iowa player of the year to court for signing a letter of intent and not going to play at NIU. Even if the University loses its case, a point will be made! This kind of terrible moral leadership with a winning at all costs mentality must be reckoned with! Many in our society have lost their moral code! As a Bradley fan, if we had lost any of our Freshman 4 star recruits to another team, I would be so upset! Finally as a fan of College Basketball, I would have liked to see that Iowa player of the year when NIU played Bradley! OK I'm done complaining.....

This has happened to Bradley in the past. The most memorable case was a player named Anthony Grundy, an outstanding guard from Kentucky who committed and signed a Letter if Intent to Bradley under Jim Molinari. He blew up his senior year and bigger schools started tampering. He asked to be released, but Bradley initially refused. Eventually Bradley released him, and he attended NC State. He had a long pro career overseas - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Grundy

He had a troubled life and died an unfortunate death at the age of 40.

It happened to ISU as well. They had signed Carbondale HS star Justin Dentmon. Then he blew up big time at the State Championships and, of course got calls and offers from big schools. But ISU would not release him from his LOI and scholarship agreement. But he found a way around that by doing a year of prep school then headed to Univ of Washington.
He had great college & pro careers - even playing 8 games in the NBA, but I can’t see how he’d have done worse for himself had he stayed at ISU. Guys like Fred VanVleet, Doug McDermott & AJ Green prove that the same degree of college career can lead to an excellent pro careers.

If you are good enough the scouts will find you no matter where you are at
