New 2025 Bradley Commit AJ Smith

I like AJ Smith...but I'm not sure how much we can play him at the 4..I mean he's only 6'6"...We need to get some size, and some more low post scoring, especially if we are not going to be the 3 point threat we were.

Henry, Taylor Brown, Theron Wilson were all this size. Matt Salley played a lot of 5 at 6’7”. I think a more traditional Valley 4 man doesn’t have to be tall, just a good rebounder and strong/athletic. Brian seems to like more height there but it’s not a necessity in the Valley. I’m not saying he is those players, but I hope so and Dave made the Henry comparison in the paper.

I don’t think he’s the best fit for us at the three given his profile. If he’s not a three shooter do we really run out Johnson/Burch/Smith as our perimeter. Not a very good shooting team, especially with Meta getting major or maybe even starter minutes down low. We really need a Hickman type to take on primary defensive and three point shooting duties, especially if Smith is going to play the three a lot. I know we have the freshmen too, but I’ll wait and see what they can do.

Again, give me a starting 2 and 5 and I feel a lot better about our chances.

I like the comparison to Henry. A good rebounder, especially one that can follow through with a second chance basket, would be great.

Nice pickup from the portal.

Good FT shooter and good rebounder, we could have really used someone like him this past season.

heck, if you can find a way to compare him to Marcus Pollard - even if he just wears the same shoe size, I'll take him!
Toughness is what we hear about AJ Smith and toughness helps on rebounding and defense.
The MVC player who led the entire conference by a mile in OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING is only 6-4 but TOUGH.
