Eric Coleman?

BU ICEMAN

New member
At the risk of providing fodder for the UNI crowd....am I the only one who feels that Eric Coleman is just a tad overrated?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's a bad player, but I just don't see all the hype about this guy. I'd almost say he's getting credit for his size, not his talent. Granted, he's got above average quicks for a guy his size, I'll give him that, and I think that's where all the hype comes from. But he's like a bull in a China shop, once he gets going, he can't keep himself under control. He puts up decent numbers, but if the referees call it tight, he can become a non-factor real quick.

Am I missing something? Am I the only one that feels this way?

I think he has played in the shadow of Grant Stout for the past three years, so now that Stout is gone, it's time for Coleman to get noticed. Plus, I don't think he's had any monster games against BU.....at least none that I can recall.

He may not be tall, but he's strong, quick for his size, and he passes the ball very well. IMO, he's a pretty good player, and certainly deserving of preseason 1st team all-conference honors.

Some guys just get the job done, and don't ever look that impressive when you watch them, but they help you win and at the end of the game they have good numbers.

Coleman will be 1st team All-MVC, and will put up 14-15 ppg and 8-9 rpg against good competetion. But he won't be an All-American and he won't be discussed as an NBA draft pick. It is rare for the MVC to ever have big men who are NBA prospects. Other than POB, who was the last big man drafted? Rico Hill wasn't really a "big man", so maybe Chad Gallagher in the early 90's, and he was a bust as a pro.

So in a slightly down year for the MVC, they need to promote the better players all they can, and Coleman is one of the best 2 big men the league has to offer. But Ice Man may be right, he would probably not get much playing time if he played in the Big Ten, etc.

I think that's a good way of putting it. He's never never "looked good" doing it, but yep, he gets the job done.

i think coleman is great at post moves and footwork too. some of the reason he looks quick is because he's simply got the moves. at 6'6" he's certainly too short to be considered an all-american center but he manages to help his team get the job done down low. not sure about the measurements but it seems to me that he's pretty long-armed too, so that helps.

A couple thoughts....

As big men in te valley go, Eric Coleman is good. He will be a lot like Matt Schneiderman or Matt Webster. Not NBA material, but in the Valley they will get the job done and win games, defend the lane, and provide energy & intangibles for the team.

And Gallagher....didn't end up making a pretty decent career as an on-stage comedian after his days at Creighton?

You know, I really don't like Eric Coleman, but I'm not sure if he's overrated. I mean it's not like he's getting national attention. Many people are predicting him to be All-MVC, and I certainly believe he will, so I think he's rated about where he should be. He and Falker are clearly the two best big men in the Valley right now, even though they stand 6'6" and 6'7" respectively. Coleman is definitely a good player. He's pretty quick and can dribble for a post player, very good low post game, and is a beast on the boards for only being 6'6" A little out of control at times, but you can live with that for all the other things he gives you on the floor.

I think he is a very good player......seeing a couple of his games against teams other than BU....he really stood out......knows how to use his body in the lane..and passed the ball pretty well......I would take him on my team....

If I had a 7' center he would make a great PF....
