Donivine Stewart

Things are heating up for the Limestone freshman, and it appears he suddenly has a new favorite among his college options.
Despite that Illinois and Bruce Weber have already offered Donivine before his freshman year was up, he now has
North Carolina as his favorite. Theyhave not offered, but they are strong on Stewart and have been in touch,
and here's what Donivine says.........
".............Stewart really likes the Tar Heels of North Carolina, a team he??™s followed for a long time. ???I have plans to make a visit to North Carolina sometime in June, I think, but I??™m not sure what day I??™m going down there for sure,??? Stewart added. Stewart also stated he liked UCLA and their program, but is waiting for more involvement later this summer."

I'm not a member, so I can't see that whole article - does it actually say that UNC is his "favorite", or just that he is interested?

In the article, written by the Illiniboard author, Kedric Prince, I get the feeling Stewart is dodging much talk about Illinois....and actually talking more about his interest outside the midwest.
Stewart is asked if he likes Illinois/Bruce Weber and this is his comment:
"Stewart talked to us about his feelings on the Illini, ???I??™m honored that Coach Weber offered me a scholarship. They??™re the only school to do that right now. I??™m not going to commit anytime soon because I??™m so young and there??™s a lot of basketball to be played before I??™m done with high school,??? said Stewart."

the very next paragraph talks about how he has been hearing from UNC and really likes them....then even says
"he liked UCLA and their program, but is waiting for more involvement later this summer"
...so really who knows....I get the idea that like just about anyone from Shaun Livingston, Cory Maggette, to John Scheyer, if given the choice between Illinois and one of the premier programs like UCLA, Duke, UNC, etc...that the kid is already using Illinois as his backup option at this time.?

Hmm, I think you're making a real jump to say that UNC is his favorite right now. All he said is that he was going to wait awhile to commit, something that was already known. The kid is taking his time, which is the right thing to do, considering he just finished his freshman year.

My understanding is that his team (Limestone) is scheduled to participate in a team camp at UNC this summer. IMO, he doesn't want to show any favoritism elsewhere (including UIUC) which would jeopardize that opportunity for his teammates.
