Little brother to Shayok Shayok -- he has zoomed way up to the #4 spot in all of Canada in his class........I can assure you Geno knows about him...

"Perhaps the most consistent performer of the summer was 2014 SG Marial
Shayok. He was sensational in Mexico, played solid in Indy, and was
tremendous in Orlando. He came into the summer as an unknown and now has
multiple high major schools tracking him. His summer shot him all the way up
the board to #4 in a class that may be one of Canada's strongest in a long time"

2014 Shayok

You can best believe Bradley is recruiting him.

Not a big deal at all, but you may want to change the headline of this post. It says Class of 2012. The article says 2014. I thought "He is already old enough to go somewhere in 2012? I thought he was young."

Then when I read the post it said class of 2014.

Shayok's little brother Marial Shayok is in the news again....

he has been selected to play for Canada's National U17 basketball team, and is currently in France playing an exhibition and preparing to play the FIBA U17 World Championships in Lithuania June 29-July8

He is #11 in this picture in front of 7-2 Tanveer Bhullar - click on the picture to see a larger version

Shayok's little brother Marial Shayok is playing for the U17 Canadian National team...and they are in a high level tourney in France as a tune up for the world Championships next week...

Thus far in the first 3 games, Marial Shayok is one of Canada's stars...

Game 1 vs. China - Canada won 99-76 - Marial Shayok had 14 pts to lead the Canadians in scoring - on 7-12 and also had 3 rebs & 2 steals off the bench.

Game 2 vs. France - Canada lost 68-63 - Marial Shayok had 6 pts, 3 rebs, 3 steals off the bench - and none of the starters hit double digits.

Game 3 vs. Egypt - Canada lost 92-81 but Marial Shayok was Canada's scoring leader at 19 pts. & 6 rebs, off the bench.
Unfortunately the Canadians just don't have a lot of scorers, and the big man Bhullar is pretty useless.

So thus far, Marial has not started but has led the Canadian U17 team in scoring in two of their 3 games, and he has 39 points total in the 3 games - to easily lead all players on their roster.

EDIT - the Canadian U17's just now completed their game today against Croatia and won 88-74
Marial again starred and led all scorers with 23 points - on 10-17, and hit his only 3-pt attempt.
Again Canada was really let down by their starters - three of whom failed to score more than a single basket, and one was scoreless....handing over a 24-16 deficit to the subs who came in to play the 2nd quarter.
You gotta wonder how long it'll take for the Canadian coaches to see they are starting the wrong guys.

Marial Shayok was selected to the All-Tournament Team for his fine performances..the only Canadian (3rd place finishers) U17 player so honored...
I suspect Marial is now hearing from a lot more coaches and recruiters...and there's discussion on the UK boards that John Calipari is now all over Marial
.

I have heard our coaches are definitely onto him and that we might actually have the advantage over everyone right now...
but it would all evaporate instantly if Calipari or Kyzyzewski starts calling..

As expected because of his standout play at the international level - Marial Shayok is getting lots of attention...but he's still with his U17 Canadian team over in Europe..

This weekend begins the U17 WORLD Championships in Lithuania...
Canada is in Group B with Spain, Croatia, Lithuania, Argentina and Korea.
Group A has the USA plus China,Czech Republic, France, Australia and Egypt.

Their first game is today, vs. Lithuania (11:35am Eastern), then their schedule is as follows...

Saturday - vs. Croatia (8:45am)
Sunday - vs. Argentina (1:25pm)
Tuesday - vs. Spain (2:00pm)
Wednesday - vs. Korea (2:00pm)
..then their Group play will determine their tournament seeding and they begin knockout round play

Here are some results from today's game already played over in Lithuania
China 80 - Egypt 68
Spain 80 - Korea 62
Czech 70 - France 64
USA 89 - Australia 67 - Jahlil Okafor 16 pts/5 rebs, Jabari Parker 11 pts/8 rebs, Kendrick Nunn 1-5/2 pts

Canada playing Lithuania presently and Canada is down at halftime 38-30
..with Marial Shayok leading in scoring with 9 pts but the Canadians have turned the ball over a whopping 15 times already!

Canada tied it, and it went to OT at 61-61...
In OT Canada outscored Lithuania 8-2 to win the game 69-63,
Shayok scored 16 pts, had 3 rebs, 3 steals, an assist and unfortunately had 4 TO (the Canadian team had 23!!)

Marial Shayok's 16 pts are the team high again - so thus far in 5 U17 games with his Canadian team, Marial has been or tied for the scoring leadership in four of them!

Marial had a tough game vs. Team USA U17 but followed up with a decent game vs. China...

If he has a deficiency at this point - it's that when guarded well he tends to take forced shots and bad shots.

Note that his current shooting pct for the seven games at the U17 World Championships is 33.3% (27-81) and his shooting from 3-pt range is just 6-23 (26%)
so he's a nice player and as a Class of 2014 - still has a lot of time to develop the parts of his game that are lacking...
his current averages against the world's best U17's are - 12 ppg, 6 rpg, 1.5 apg, 2 spg
