Bracket Buster official release

I am not too thrilled with this selection either....but that's the problem with Bracketbusters. The last few years we played people that could help our resume. This year, we're on the other end of that. That is the nature of this tournament. The selections are designed to help a team or hurt a team, because (contrary to the philosophy of the tournament) all mid-majors are not created equal.

Don't take UWM lightly, they are rollin, they lost by only 2 at Wright St. Sat. and led most of the game.

Go UWM!!

Go UWM!!

UWM plays @ Butler on Feb 12th at 6PM and we can all watch it on ESPNU. If they could pull off this upset, and then beat the next 2 cupcakes they play, I would think they would have an RPI well inside the top 100.

So everyone tune in on the 12th and pull for UWM, theyre gonna need it.

Ryan

Let's not dwell on the negatives too much.

Yea, yea... another Horizon team. They ARE the 10th best conference compared to (Nevada's) WAC at 18th.

The 10th best conference in the last 14 years has produced 2 bids 10 times and 3 bids twice. Bids have ranged from as high as a 5 seed once and 6 seed twice. Average seeds have been 10.25. That's TOP 40 in the eyes of the selection committee.

And we get to play an ascending team currently in the top 4 of the 10th best conference.

And we get to do it on the ESPN network.

A 5th Horizon team doesn't help the SoS - they all play each other, so our SoS dips closer and closer to .500.

I'd gamble on the WAC recovering next year.

And finally,

BB has not been very good to us. Actually, the last two years have been solid. But I still won't forgive them for a 150 RPI team trying to pop our bubble in '06.

Yeeechhh.

It's only a worthless game if we win. If we lose it's worth a whole heckuva lot. For anybody out there that was holding out hope that we'd draw a team good enough to maybe, just maybe, give us a shot at a "quality win" for the resume (if any of those teams existed in the event?), you've gotta be pretty disappointed.

Let the "we gotta get out of the BracketBuster" posts begin.....

Well, every win the Valley gets will help the overall conference RPI. So winning this game will help everyone out, including us.

But talk about the MVC/Horizon challenge for us! Anyone else from that conference want to play us next year? :D

I'm afraid this bracketbuster will be a disaster. I think we can win and UNI should win, not certain what EIU has so maybe EU can win, but I think everyone else is way overmatched.

this matchup blows i agree.... however it is on tv and if we can blow this team out of the water and show some people how dominate we can be it could really help us....if we win a close game or something like that it wont really matter i dont think

As bad as anyone thinks Evansville is.... E Illinois isat least 2X worse... they are HORRIBLE.

Now that I said it... E Illinois upsets Evansville and I will eat crow.

What are you basing this on?
SIU should be a favorite over Nevada at home. ISU is a better team than Wright State and that is a home game for them...Creighton will not be overmatched by Oral Roberts...
Anything can happen of course, but those three teams will absolutely not be overmatched by the team they are paired with...and those are the games we have to win as a conference (along with the BU and UNI games...) to call this Bracketbuster a success for the Valley.

AS - this all really doesn't matter. It's all Blah-blah to people. I don't want to hear about SOS numbers and such - it really doesn't matter.

We don't deserve a BracketBuster Boosting game based on where our numbers are at right now - and ESPN knows that (and so do you and I).

Wisc-Mil or Nevada or Mia-Oh... none of it helps... THIS YEAR.

So the talk is really about next year. The return game and what it could mean for us. Shucks - we got hosed. But that is because the resume we built so far to this point in the eyes of ESPN for their day (weekend now)with Cinderella.

You have said before - doesn't matter... win games... go on a roll.

If Bradley is good enough, they will win enough games down the stretch to put themselves in the discussion (yet, really must win auto bid). A win in the BracketBuster over any WAC/MAC/Horizon team is equal.... JUST WIN!!!

We have to win Arch Madness to dance. Unless we run the table to the MVC final (which would be 13 in a row), it doesn't matter if we win the BracketBuster by 1 or 100.

Ditto. We just need to avoid the play-in games. We have no reason to be afraid of any team in the valley this year. Any team not playing on Thurs night can win the tourney this year. We really just need to be playing well going into the tourney (unless we are simply playing for NIT at this point).

My SoS comments were about next year.

Agree - this year, it really doesn't matter much (as long as we didn't get hit with a REAL bad opponent to blow potential NIT opportunities).

Ah, screw it. Let's just win every **************** game on the schedule and take care of this ourselves.

Good point Mob. This matchup is what it is this year.... One game at a time to put us in a better positon for the MVC tournament and meaningful experience for key players for next year.

I am looking forward to the Drake-Butler matchup.

one other point:

If I were JL, I would have Ryan Thornton sit in with the game film analysis to see if RT can give us any additional insight to the scouting report.;)

completely agree with that however i would rather be in the NIT than nothing at all and it could possibly help that

Without looking it up, the Valley has always choked in the BB. I don't think we've gone better than 5-5 or maybe 6-4, when we should have gone no worse than 8-2 in any year.

Everybody guns for us and we don't back up the swagger.

Yes! And next year we get 4 more games against the Horizon League! I can hardly wait!

I want a team that doesn't limit our SOS universe. I think it is relevant.

Never mind Milwaukee is on the fast-track back to becoming one of the garbage programs in DI.
