Bob Knight resigns

These two guys are close to the same age........(6 1/2 years difference)

Here they are now

Hmmm....they have definitely aged at different rates.
Krzyzewski is only about 100 wins behind Knight and will pass him easily within the next 4-5 years.

Maybe the General can bring Isiah to Lubbuck for a redo of Isiah's infamous speech in Bloomington where Isiah revealed what he had learned as a player from Coach Knight.

ESPN has always been negative toward Bob Knight since the time, while at Indiana, he refused to change the time of an IU game to a late hour, stating he wouldn't do it because he wanted his players to go to class the next day.
Many sportswriters dislike him because he puts them on defense when being interviewed. They like to be on offense and he won't let them be. Let's face it. Most of them ask stupid questions and Bob can't stand stupid questions.
John Wooden has it about right. Knight would be right behind Coach Wooden for the selection of a coach of a team/game where we just absolutely had to win.

ESPN's Pat Forde really unloads on Bob Knight, calls him a hypocrite, and more..

I suspect this will be a very unpopular column!

Pat Forde was on ESPN News last night with Steve Bunin (one of their anchors). Those two went out of their way to just trash the man to shreds. Contrary to our good friend Digger Phelps who went out of his way to praise Knight and remind people of the behind the scenes things he did for the university and his players, things that were not always reported by those who had a "death wish" against him.

And you know what? On this issue, Digger could not be more correct!

Exactly! I can't stand any member of the media who feel it's their God given right to dictate what they want to hear from someone. I know Knight did not have many friends in the media, but I say good for Knight for putting the ones who just wanted to make trouble in their place all these years!

I guess we should rename this thread...
the journalists fight back....
as there are multiple columns being written taking swipes at Bob Knight, as he steps down...almost as if now that he's gone, the journalists are no longer afraid of him.
Here is Bernie Lincicome, ex-Chicago Trib writer, who was known for his less than congenial relationship with RMK.

Just saw Knight being interviewed by Jay Bilas on ESPN. I get the feeling from the interview that there is no health issue, and he just thought it was the right time to quit and get Pat acclimated to coaching the rest of this season.

Of course when asked by Bilas if he would coach again if the right offer came about, Knight said of course "never say never".

So my question of course would be, if Springfield, Missouri comes calling, would he accept? :D

Well if Bobby were to come back, I cant see him returning to a major school. He had a gift given to him with a job at Texas Tech and we have seen the results. Bobby has too much baggage and can now be called a quitter. Too much risk for a major school to accept.

I couldn't see this. Anything other than IU would accomplish nothing. Coming home to IU as a swan song would be the feather-in-the-cap to complete Knight's legacy and stick it to those who ran him out. I wouldn't be surprised if some of his old cronies and contacts gave him any early "heads-up" on Sampson's situation.

By the way, is the university president that ran him off gone?

He's now the president of the NCAA. Because of what he did to Coach Knight, I do not like him one bit. He even said at one point he wanted to de-emphasize college athletics. Which is good and all, considering he is the PRESIDENT OF THE NCAA. Myles Brand, you are a tool...

Well said, Myles Brand is an a$$&*!e.

and so is Bobby.... IU should have fired Knight years before they did...imho just another example of winning at any cost.

I guess I understand why you call Bobby Knight that but what I don't get is why should he have been fired. He ran a clean program and graduated his players two admirerable characteristics that I wish every coach had. I know there's all the extra-carricular stuff but beyond that, he ran his program the right way and won, a combo that isn't as prevelant as it used to be in today's college basketball.
