Post game thread - BU 68 isu 72

just got back....

the ISU students had some really classless chants. Every time a BU player was called for a foul, the entire student section (and cheerleaders?) yelled YOU - SU<K - D*CK

Also multiple chants of "F - U - B - U"

I guess I shouldn't really have expected class, though. I have never and can't imagine ever hearing chants like that in Peoria.

The ISU fans in front of me didn't know the names of their players.

The ball bounced their way tonight. A loose ball here, an in and out shot there and Bradley wins. We are the better team.

You are right on with these comments. I lost count of the number of times i was flipped off by their student section as well as challenged to a fight outside for doing clean bradley cheers. I love how they have to resort to dirty chears to get louder than a couple hundred bradley fans in the upper deck, like its our fault that without the bradley fans they cant sell out redbird arena.

I hope we get to meet them again in the tourney, they wont get so many favorable calls on a neutral floor.

There was also a student who continued the use of classless chants in his espn conversation http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/conversation?gameId=280402287

Feel free to post comments there too.

Good to see "Phantom's" perspective on Redbirdfan.com

"BU fans are absolutely pissing & moaning to the Nth degree in their postgame thread about our fans, specifically our students. Despite my best efforts over there to explain certain things, they are in full on gripe mode. Good to know Red Alert is really having an effect "

I guess we see a different side to Phantom on our board.

I dont blame you for thinking that...I understand how it looked, but believe me that's not my intent. I meant what I said in my first post here as well as on our board. I was just trying to explain some of the stuff that was chanted/cheered, etc. but then the bashing of our fans continued nonetheless. I didnt mean to come off as two-faced but I can understand how it might appear that I did. I just find it interesting how much of this thread has turned into how awful our fans are, rather than talking about the game itself. Students are supposed to be rowdy, and it gets intensified in a rivalry game. There are many worse things that other schools' students do at games. I certainly wont say we are angels though either, but at the sake of sounding selfish or vain, I am glad that we are making an impact. Just a couple years ago our students were barely noticeable. (Neither was our team.) We're just trying to make Redbird Arena a fun, hostile place like it used to be. Just my 2 cents.

A couple quotes from the espn page

Both of these teams are pretty evenly matched and i wouldnt be suprised if they meet in the valley tourney in march.
For the comment by uofcberkley, what a joke. You couldnt sell out a 9000 seat arena without all the bradley fans making the trip to normal. I was at both games this year and i can honestly say i didnt hear many isu fans at carver arena (which by the way holds 11500 and was sold out). Another thing, why do you even have your 5 member pep band if all they do is eat pizza and listen to the music being played over the speakers.
This is isu's first win against bradley since feb 2005, ENOUGH SAID.
ONCE A BRAVE, ALWAYS A BRAVE!!

bubraves07, Id be careful talking about selling out an arena, because I'm fairly sure you guys would have a hard time getting people in the stands if you weren't aloud to sell beer.

Although I am 100% sure that Carver would still be pretty much sold out every year for the ISU game even if we didn't sell beer, I can't help but wonder if this really does have even the smallest effect on our attendance. Obviously anyone who cares enough to be on this board wouldn't be swayed by the presence or lack of alcohol, but there have been multiple occasions where I've heard visiting fans very surprised and pleased that we have beer at Carver. I've been so used to it that it's never seemed out of the norm to me but maybe this really does get some people out to the games?

I didn't realize that the sale of beer made us louder (i assume that's what he meant by "aloud") but I suppose it could help the crowd to be more rambunctious. ;-)

As far as the bad calls, the one call on wilson was terrible, i dont think you can argue that. However, we can't blame the game on that call; to do so is to detract too much from what ISU has done. I'm sure we benefited from a few blown calls. Congrats to ISU for winning a tough game. Way to close it out. If we meet in St. Louis, I don't know who will win, but i can almost guarantee you it will be decided by less than 2 points. that assumes no significant injuries on either team going into the game.

For the students, if they were chanting vulgar cheers, then shame on them. But I think this goes back to they can act how they want in their house. It reflects directly on them. We need to continue to show class and civility (while still being enthusiastic) because personally, I hold Bradley and its fans to a higher standard than that school.

Let's get back on track against the other ISU and start a new streak that will carry us through St. Louis!

I think it is a good thing that the ISU fans have found Redbrid Arena. There must have been a few years of incoming freshman that were not provided maps to the secret on campus location of the arena.

It would appear the administators have corrected this oversight and have once again revealed to the pulbic and students the location of RBA.

Seriously though, It is good that the rivalry is amped up again, felt like it was limping along on life support for a few years. ISU has a good product to watch.

ISU having a packed arena reflects well on the MVC as a whole too.

It also helps Rebdird Arena attendance when UIUC is not playing the same day/time.

Lotsa schadenfreudes in attendance Saturday night.
