I noticed somebody mentioned Tom Crean as a possible replacement. Does he have any ties to the university? Otherwise, I wouldn't see him leaving, considering U of I tried to hire him years ago (I believe when Lon Kruger left) and he said he wasn't interested.

Indiana is in a world of trouble right now for sure but that said IU is and always will be a much, much better job than Illinois. Crean saying no to Illinois years ago has no bearing on what his interest may be in the Indiana job should they contact him. There are 6 prime-time cream of the crop jobs in college basketball and Indiana is one of them. Illinois isn't and never will be.
Duke
North Carolina
Kentucky
Indiana
Kansas
UCLA
This will never change. All the other jobs are a notch or 2 below these 6.
P.S. If ever a program needed a General, it's IU right now.
Schwarzkopf is retired and Petraueus is a tad busy right now.![]()

Yeah I remember how unbelievably desirable the IU job was before Knight(McKracken was solid but no Wooden or Rupp), and Duke was a powerhouse before Coach K was hired, It was one of the most sought after jobs at the time....
Come on, all it takes is one coach finding some success, rolling with it and staying at that program. I'm not saying it's easy but two of the programs you just mentioned owe most (and Duke ALL), of their status to one guy.
I have to disagree. Indiana USED to be elite. They no longer are. I don't see how they are any more prestigious than IL. I'd say U of L is a more desirable job than Indiana these days. Let's face it, besides their 2002 fluke, it's been over a decade since they were last a legitimate contender. They haven't won a B10 championship in years, and they seem content to do anything at any expense to try and return themselves to the prominence they once had.
Your too young or have a huge distaste to understand that Indiana has a GRAND history between the school and the state to be granted as one of the elite. I'm not a fan of theirs but it is what it is. Duke also has history behind them and either way they are now an elite school.
Bradley, USF, Cincinati, NYU at one time could have been considered one but that was way before I was born. History puts a perspective what is an elite and what is not. It has nothing to do with now. Indiana in 10 years will still be an elite in my humble opinion.
