Update on BU recruit Zach Novak

He's a kid this program really needs. His size and his game is very, very similar to that of Jeremy Crouch. 6'5" perimeter players not only excel in the MVC, they also allow the league to compete with the BCS schools who traditionally have bigger players. We're already adding a 6'4" wing in Chris Roberts, adding another 6'5" scorer would be great.
 
He does fit the mold of Ryne Smith (Purdue), Kyle Kuric (Louisville), and Matt Roth (Indiana-at least for now),
and I know we were actively recruiting all of those kids.
 
Sure, 6'5" guys are able to make it in the MVC, but isn't that ripe to become a "tweener?" I'd say even Jeremy falls into the "tweener" category; too big to be a guard/doesn't have the guard skills to play there in extended minutes, but not big enough to play down low/have an inside game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hatin' on JC, he's been way, way more than just an effective/adequate player, and he (most of the time) gets the most out of his skillset, but I think he is a classic "tweener."
 
But in the cases of Kuric (6-5) and Smith (6-4) they still were seen as effective enough scorers and shooters, that the big programs want them.
If Novak turned out to be a 6-4 to 6-5 version of Aaron Zobrist, I could live with that.

By the way......Rivals says the kid is Class of 2008 (a senior) and that is correct

I would disagree wholeheartedly. JC is the prototypical shooting guard for the college game at just about any level. Did you watch the CU game? Did you see him dribble around and through the CU defense to score when his jumper wasn't going down? Doesn't have the guard skills? I'm not sure what JC hasn't done over 4 years to show he 'doesn't' have the guard skills? :confused:

I'd say the classic 'tweener' would be Theron Wilson. I think he fits your definition of a 'tweener' above to a tee. He's an inside player stuck in a guard's body. Unfortunately, we have him playing power forward.
