Ruffin out?

How can fans care about players like they are family if they dont know them?
.

and some don't but I go to events with hundreds and even more than a thousand fans, have you not been to some of those events, where every fan is in love with those players.
They care for them like family.
It is no coincidence that BU draws >11,000 fans when a school virtually right next door, with five times the fan base is playing for a chance to win the conference and draws only about 4-5,000!

In your case, I would fully support your parents on this.

I suspect your parents would do no such thing.

Also, if they were called there at 3:20am ..
If they were called at 3:20am, then a report was filed and no arrests made.
The arrest was made after 5AM

So, let me get this straight...If Ruff is, hypothetically, found guilty of these charges that he has against him right now...(which include battering a woman with his hands and feet)...You are going to give him a rousing standing ovation?

I have yet to ever see a domestic battery or assault case where I really felt I had any way of knowing exactly what really happened.
Barring the rare, rare case in which some surveillance video catches the actions, then it always seems to boil down to he says one thing and she says something else.
I am just as entitled to form the opinion I choose to form as anyone else, I right now I personally believe I have seen nothing to convince me Daniel Ruffin hit anyone.

I know of the reports such as this one...
http://1470wmbd.com/Bradley-Star-Arrested-for-Domestic-Battery/1706312
that say the alleged victim was taken to the hospital, but I have seen no report that actually says she had any injury, have you?
And even if she had some injury.....then it would still be a little like the Duke case, in which we'd still have nothing but one person's word vs. another's as to who caused the injury.
I have also heard a report "from someone who isn't willing to be identified" that the alleged injuries were not seen objectively, but again, I put the same stock in that report, as it is unverified.

Lastly........the present report as posted on WMBD's web site says some further determination may be made by tomorrow...
"A spokeperson for the jail said Saturday afternoon the State's Attorney's office will review the case Sunday to determine how to proceed."

That is a certainly a valid perspective on this issue...We on this board have no idea what actually happened...but I clarified my earlier point by saying that if Ruff is still in street clothes and still suspended for the SIU game, that would be a pretty good indication to me that something bad actually did happen...and as a result I would not be taking part in this rousing ovation/group hug for Ruff.
If there are no injuries to the woman, if there are no reasons to charge Ruff with anything, then it should be all cleared up by noon on Monday...and I don't see any reason that he shouldn't be there playing on Tuesday...And if so, I'll be cheering with the rest of you for him...We'll see how it turns out.

I used to work in a jail (granted, in a bigger city), but there was a pre-trial service group responsible for setting the initial bond after one is arrested. The group was there 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Release was typically based on 1) severity of the crime, 2) defendents criminal history, and 3) ability to verify personal information such as address, employment, etc. to determine that someone is not a flight risk.

I am kind of surprised he is stuck in jail until Monday. In my experience, once pre trial service duties are complete (probably averaged about 3-5 hours), a suspect is either 1) denied bond, 2) assigned a bond - pay and your out, or 3) released on their own recognizance.

PS, one of my friends says that my experience is dated and now domestic violence is taken much more seriously. He says a lot of states have a "72 hour cool down period" or something like that.

The 72 hour cool down period is where the abusee can't visit the abused or else you can be arrested again. It's like a temporary order of protection. If memory serves correct, it's a mandatory 24 hour hold on DV cases and then it's up to the Judge or prosecutor.

This whole time I have kind of sat here on my hands reading what everyone else is posting and I just can't sit here any longer. There are so very few facts available right now that I can't believe the conclusions that people are jumping to. I am personally a fan of innocent until proven guilty, unfortunately in the court of public opinion it is vice versa. Until more facts are made available, I stand by Ruffin. I think it is ridiculous that this thread has gone on so long with such few information available. Yes it will stink not having him tonight, but lets face, on another thread people are saying that this game is meaningless anyways (for anyone wondering, I don't believe in a meaningless game). I think this thread needs to end until more information is available. And come Senior Night, I hope that Ruffin is up there with JC and MS because he has been the heart and soul of the team this year and he is one of the biggest reasons we are where we are now. I know for a fact that I will be standing up and applauding him for what he has given Bradley Basketball. I hope you all do the same.

There is always two sides to a story like this and trust me this one will probably be three dimensional. I just hope at the end of this ordeal the parties involved are treated fairly. Let's not all jump to any conclusions please.

BTW I'd cheer for DR on Tuesday if I was there and I'm praying for him and the alledged woman right now that this will be cleared up and the truth and the healing process can start right away.

Exactly. Domestic Violence can be charged in cases of threat and feeling in immediate danger too. So...it could be something serious enough but non-physical. I know they said "hands and feet" but that doesnt say much.

I just hope DR get's the best lawyer possible. As my dad use to tell me, "If you need a lawyer or a doctor get the best because you are going to have to pay for it one way or the other."

Okay, so I'm assuming this means that unless he did something really hideous, he will be out sometime tomorrow. Then it will probably come down to a long meeting between him and the Bradley administration, but hopefully this will come to a head by Monday, one way or the other.

And yes, as I stated before, if he did what the "alleged victim" says he did, then he deserves whatever punishment he gets. But considering his perfect record before this, I'm a little skeptical about this whole thing.

People have mentioned the Duke lacrosse team as a great example. That tells me right there that we could potentially be damaging someone's reputation before we even know all of the facts. I have a feeling a lot will come out within the next day or two.

If BU is going by past precedent, Daniel Ruffin should be reinstated Monday and play in Tuesday's game. Theron Wilson and Tyrone Cole-Scott were arrested and charged with zero tolerance. They both served a 1 game suspension, and were reinstated. Dan Ruffin was arrested, charged with a misdemeanor, and suspended for 1 game. He wasn't charged with a felony, and hasn't been convicted of anything. I realize the university can do whatever it wants, and that they are not bound in any way by the legal system. However, I think it would be unfair to someone who's never been in trouble and has given nearly 5 years of blood, sweat, and tears to this university an excessive punishment because of a misdemeanor charge. To me, suspending him for the rest of of the season would be excessive.

I think it will be a one game suspension, and the university acted so quickly to suspend him so they could make that suspension the UWM game.

If he is in uniform or is introduced on Senior Night, I won't boo him, but I will not applaud him.

Then you have presumed he is guilty even without knowing the facts?

Per PJ Star article......
"misdemeanor charge of domestic battery"

whoa.....then this differs in a HUGE way from one of the supposedly strong sources that some people have saying he was booked on a felony charge.
( I heard this from at least 3 different supposedly well-informed people at the game and have seen it several times on the "other" board, and as you will now see, many of those threads have been removed from the PJ Star board because of horribly inaccurate and hostile posts)
I think this proves unequivocally that the people posting hearsay should just shut up and apologize to Daniel Ruffin, and maybe to other board posters as well.

I just cant shake the feeling that something fishy is going on here.

Look at it like this. Ruffin has played so many games year after year with teams that include players with overinflated egos. These guys will rub it in Ruffins face and act all holy to him when they make a good play and Ruffin ignores it like it didnt happen. In a competitive arena with 11k fans cheering you on doesnt get you to act on your anger, this incident DOES NOT sound right.

After hearing the reports last night and then reading more of them today I believe everyone should give D.Ruffin a chance to tell or hear his side of the story, most people don:t realize that even if the police did not totally believe the womans story the law requires them to arrest Ruffin on suspicion and then it is up the the states attorney on whether to pursue charges , we should at least hear his side of the story monday.
